FFB joystick like the Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 can work as a gear shifter using a program that makes certain directions "snap" (pull/push) the stick into certain configurable directions using force feedback and output keys like 1-6 or PRNDL bound to gears/modes: I just wish BeamNG did this natively to automatically (depending on vehicle transmission/mode) switch between, e.g.: manual (H-shifter), automatic (with "steps"), handbrake (pull the stick forward when letting go), flight stick (pull the stick to the center) or helicopter stick (hold the stick at the last place it was let go from) Any thoughts on this?
If it's a DirectInput device with at least 1 force feedback axis (not just vibration) then it should probably work. Even my Thrustmaster T150 steering wheel is supported by FFShifter which is way older, though obviously it lacks a Y axis like the MS FFB2 joystick and it doesn't make sense to use it instead of BeamNG's wheel FFB.
I don't think my velocity one joystick has FFB. google ai says it has vibrations. Idk who to trust or what to know
Yeah, I didn't see any mention of FFB in the official page https://www.turtlebeach.com/products/velocity-one-flight But you could still try it to be sure https://github.com/ThreeDeeJay/FFShifter/releases/latest Even though FFB is common for steering wheels, they stopped making FFB joysticks decades ago, supposedly because of a patent troll, which expired years ago so there's new sticks but they're quite expensive.
I tried a similar github project, but the thing kept thinking i was shifting into 4th when trying 1st. and it was for controllers... got the wrong one thinking it would work. --- Post updated --- actually i think i'll wait untill i get a shifter. and a better wheel.
