Actually I do agree that the tire behaviour is much better than most people give it credit for. I find it very enjoyable and for the most part believable. Some aspects are better than in some of the so called „hardcore sims”. There are some things that could use an improvement though. I agree that the difference behaviour-wise probably won’t be as big as some might believe. Still there is clearly the time and place for such an extensive overhaul. After all even the smallest difference in tire pressures or geometry can bring a significant difference. Considering beam’s brand new approach I believe it may have a definite effect on handling balance in some instances, especially when it comes to staggered setups which imo feel a bit wrong now.
I'm gonna assume this update is mostly a technical focused update on unseen changes (bugfixes, code changes, performance improvements, general work to lay groundwork for future functionality) and the content we're getting teased is a byproduct of those team members that would usually be working on more involved vehicle work having the time to push attention towards props and whatnot. At least, I hope so. I really don't mind seeing vehicles take a backseat just for a little bit to see more love for other issues in the game. I really really really still want to see better anti-aliasing come to the game. SMAA in the big 25 is abysmal.
Yeah, they don't even let us downsample the game for the simplest form of great AA. It just doesn't show any resolutions higher than desktop resolution while almost any other game does.
Absolutely, but none of that really affects existing vehicles, maybe unless the devs decide to go back and fix configs that need fixing regardless. So, going back to the comment I'm replying to there's no reason for the the new car to be on hold because of tire model rework.
I don’t think you, me, or anyone here without insider knowledge can make a basis for your first claim one way or another. We simply don’t know the extent of the devs plans and their desired results. I will say everything has been in the works for a while and I agree with your point about the new car- they’ve been planning that “2026” car for a while now and they’ve also known they were reworking their tire model well before they dropped us a video. They didn’t randomly pop into Calspan with a couple dozen tires and go “what up, y’all? Throw these on your machine?”
there is a post in the BeamNG.drive subreddit by @stenyak talking about a new car that could arrive by that time period
I will admit, it is quite peculiar that we're gonna be going (potentially) at least one-and-a-half years without a new vehicle. The last major gaps between new vehicles have been: -0.3.0.4 - 0.3.1: ~9 months (September 2013 - June 2014) (Pigeon) -0.9 - 0.12: ~1 year (April 2017 - April 2018) (Wentward) -0.19 - 0.22: ~1 year (April 2020 - March 2021) (Wendover) -0.30 - 0.33: ~1 year (September 2023 - September 2024) (MD-Series) With the first big gap, that was because there were so few devs and the Pre-Race update turned out to be quite large. (The Pigeon also could've been a bit more complicated to develop than expected, as it was the first fiberglass vehicle and the first three-wheeler.) The Wentward was a very ambitious project. It was (and still is) a very large vehicle with things like air suspension, opening doors, and an accompanying campaign and bus mode. The latter two gaps were likely both related to the Gavril truck remasters (certainly the second one, since the MD-Series uses a lot of T-Series parts), and the Wendover's digidash (and being redesigned as a two-door coupe) could've delayed development, as well. Considering that three of the four new vehicle waits have been for something with a new technology (Pigeon, Wentward, Wendover), I feel like this vehicle has to have something truly radical. Even something like a big Citroen or '60s GT car probably wouldn't take much longer than a year to develop. If brake glow's becoming a thing in the next update, perhaps motorsport will finally take more of a focus from 0.38 onwards. A specialized circuit-racing machine (probably not an F1 car, but maybe a NASCAR or lower-level Formula car) would work very nicely at showcasing improvements in aero, tires, suspensions, and other systems. There's also something else to consider - the Apex Performance Metrics in Career Mode. Right now, that branch's quite barebones, but I feel like having a purpose-built racer (or two) would work excellently for a "final test". And what better thing to have alongside a revolutionary new vehicle than a new map, such as another racetrack? That could also be used for APM testing in Career Mode (although probably not immediately after release). 0.27 had many vehicles to showcase different technologies (tank steering and flotation tires for the Wydra, TPMS and portal axles for the Stambecco, and the new bypass-shock suspensions for the SPs and Autobuggy). It also had a new map that showcased most of these vehicles' capabilities (the Wydra's much better around JRI, IMO). JV also was a technical breakthrough, having "a lot of physics triangles per square meter (which previously was a release-blocker)". Stenyak's said before that the map devs have been working on a new map for a while that might release. New maps that push boundaries releasing alongside new cars that also push boundaries is nothing out of the ordinary. It's happened in 0.3.6 (T-Series/Sunburst, ECA/Hirochi), 0.5.4 (Utah/Miramar), 0.15 (Italy/Piccolina), and 0.23 (Gridmap V2/Wigeon), as well as 0.27. Here.
Just a question, why the Burnside and Grand Marshal don't fly up? Is it because they weren't released hign enough?
Maybe they didn’t land on it. --- Post updated --- I cant see any updates to the cars in the teaser. I need the limo.
It looks to me like the shape of the roof has changed. It could just be the motion blur but the quarter windows look steeper and the roof looks flatter. Could be nothing though.
has anyone looked at the moonhawk that's also falling in the teaser? does it look slightly better than usual or is it just me?
Idk if someone bring that up but if u listen to video on the end of it there is sound of V8 engine or diesel V8 engine. For me it reminds me Gavril T-Series engine noise. Also you guys think it's gonna be trampoline but trampoline uses rope system or mutli fibre system with springs and ropes. I don't see anyone bringing that up. or New Tire System and reaction of tire to impact but simulated with bigger than usual reaction.
