No, but Z97 is better for OCing. Just don't put a mATX board into an ATX case, that's wrong.

$500 for the PC alone or do you need monitor/peripherals as well? If you do, $500 won't get you much.

I know I'm new to this conversation but I wanted to add this in: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/g9dJGX

This is a build for upgrading, so you could get a newer graphics card in the future and/or CPU hopefully with the same case + power supply, hence the choice of a 500w power supply and a ATX case. You could easily go for a micro ITX MOBO + case and 400w power supply if you wanted to go cheaper and less upgrade paths.

Terrible build. The 250 is a crappy card, and there's no reason to buy a more expensive APU over an FX chip for gaming.

Try this, a good gaming PC on a budget. Should run most games at 60 fps in mid-high settings 1080p.

$500 for the PC alone can get you a pretty good build. I know it sounds kind of sketchy, but buying used parts has worked for me. I've got two MSI R9 270 GAMINGs that I got for $110-120 each. I get pretty good performance out of them.

You can get a new 270 for $140. I'd rather buy new parts.

"Some AMD 970 chipset motherboards may need a BIOS update prior to using Vishera CPUs."

i think it'd be pretty important that the motherboard work out of the box (and since you can't update the bios without a cpu that doesn't require a bios update to work, well...)

unless of course you've used this motherboard and already know it works with Vishera cpu's without a bios update, in which case nevermind

You were asked above if you needed peripherals to which you said no...

$500 for peripherals and PC, you will be lucky to get your normal settings requirement, won't run anything from the last decade on high. Possibly not even brand spanking new games at normal.

If you have a mouse and keyboard already. Use them. Otherwise just buy cheap. You don't have budget available for fancy mechanical gaming keyboards and high DPI laser gaming mice with a ton of macro keys.

Monitor. If you have a TV with HDMI input, use it. TVs aren't great monitors, but its better than no monitor.

Not really. If you have an HDMI TV, use it. If you don't, you'll have to cut your budget by $60 since monitors start around $80.

I am saving up to buy a new laptop, and am stuck in a predicament. I can't decide which one of these two PC's are better:

    Asus G751JY http://www.asus.com/us/site/g-series/G751/

    or

    MSI GT72 2PE Dominator Pro. http://www.msi.com/product/nb/GT72-2...#hero-overview

They are both around $2300, so price doesn't change the outcome of the PC. Please don't say "Don't buy a laptop, get a desktop." I need a portable PC, which can play games, but also do schoolwork for next year. Our school has bring your own device in Year 9+.

Neither. If you have a gaming desktop and its a laptop for school, you don't need a gaming laptop. Instead you want something portable. Gaming laptops are heavy and have a short battery life. You want lightweight and a long battery life. An i5 on integrated graphics will still run some games, just at low settings, which is all you need in school. When you are carrying it around all day and with the possibility of no charging access all day, the gaming laptops are terrible choices.
If you wish to be the rich kid with bragging rights, get a macbook, as much as I don't like apple, they are lightweight and their batteries just do not die.

I want to save money by buying one of those 2 laptops for school and home purposes, but, I guess I do need portability and battery. I will wait for the Surface 4, which will come out with Windows 10 soon.

Go for something balanced between performance and battery life. I personally hate new laptops, they're all too light and thin. 2009-10 laptops are the best IMO, I just love 3rd gen core 2's/1st gen core i's for some reason. I don't know why, I just like them.

I got a Toshiba Satellite for Christmas.
Flimsiest thing ever. The lid had no more structural rigidity than the cover of a 3 ring binder. It was absolutely awful. I returned it and bought and Xbox One with the money...which I haven't touched in a month. :|
I'm still looking for a laptop. I got an old inspiron whatsamacallit with a dead hard drive. Fiddled with it a little then lost motivation. Not sure if its even worth the trouble.
