I know there are a lot of these "building a computer" type threads but I just thought I'd add to that.

He is in my class and he has come to me to build him a PC. He has a budget of £700-£800 and here is what I have come up with:
    http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/tBDQxr

He doesn't play BeamNG.Drive, it's sad I know, but he plays things like Battlefield, CS:GO and all that lot. Luckily for him I will be supplying the OS because I am such a great friend.

I need all the parts in the UK parts picker so if you build a PC please do it in the UK parts picker.

    Thanks

Isn't too bad of a choice of parts.

EDIT: He can still play Beam if he wanted to. The FX 6300 is a good CPU for one to 3 cars.

I think it's a nicely balanced setup that should be able to run any of the above-mentioned games on high to ultra details. There should be no need to switch any parts in my opinion. :)

Good build. I'd rather get an i3 but the budget doesn't seem to allow it.

I knew it. I knew you would come up with a Intel thing but nonetheless, I tried fitting a i5-4460 into the budget but it just wasn't happening and the i3 again was just too much, I guess Intel is more a premium which is good when you have £600-£700 to spend on the PC alone, but when you have to get the full set, AMD is the way to go.

But yeah, a 6300 is a good CPU when intel is out of the budget.
Another option is to get a decent z97 board and a Pentium G3258. You can overclock it and easily upgrade to Devil's Canyon or Broadwell when you can afford it.

Building a PC for a mate? Don't most mammals have a call for that sorta thing that gets prospective mates interested?

Yes it's adequate, good choice of parts for the budget. The most we could do now is nitpick, so hope your mate enjoys his new computer.

I did think that and don't really know why I didn't pick it in terms of performance. I guess the thing is that at my school we have a pecking order for PCs. I am 3rd behind my friend Michael who has a i7-2500k, 16GB RAM and a GTX 970 and my other friend Simon who has a i7-5820k, 32GB RAM, GTX 980 and extraordinarily rich parents. I think saying "I have a AMD 6 core" is better than saying "I have a Pentium", you said in another thread that you wouldn't have a Pentium Sticker anywhere near your PC and basically it's like that.

I really don't know what to reply with, so here is a reply that I made earlier.

you get what you pay for

no, you bask in the knowledge that you made an informed decision to buy a superior price/performance processor for games and single threaded tasks. 'pentium' is just branding. you're falling for marketing tricks. the g3258 is a highly overclockable haswell architecture cpu. but i guess none of that matters to the other children on the playground with rich parents who might think less of you?

I don't know what it was like when you were at school, but it is important. The guy I am building it for is at the "top" of the metaphorical "ladder" in my school. He is athletic, funny and an all round nice guy, to then introduce him to a place where he would be out-ranked considerably by others would be like putting a tropic fish into the English Channel. I don't know if you were mistaken thinking that I was building it for myself but it is for a friend, like I have mentioned in previous posts but also the title of the bloody thread! And don't think I would pass up a Pentium. As some people might know from a post about my PC build, I was going to have a Pentium and a R9 290 in my build so don't think I am mocking it.

PS: Think before you post and read it carefully.
PPS: Use capital letters at the beginning of sentence, it makes it look like it was written by a adult rather than a 4 year old. Just FYI look at my writing. I'm 13. A 13 year old writes to a higher standard than you.

Yeah. Having a pentium instantly makes you last place in a PC dick measuring contest.
    Just because it's a Pentium.

I still have the FX sticker.
I'm saving the i5 one since I'm getting a new case with the GTX 970.

My one is on a little indent where I HOPE is for stickers and not for some extremely important part that I just slapped a i5 and a ASUS sticker on... While I'm here, I may as well just take a picture of the entire case, who said pre-builts come with generic cases, HA!

You put the stickers over the floppy drive cover. Who even uses floppy drives anyway?

Don't know why but I have a Windows 95 install floppy disk in my room... And my dad still uses floppies sometimes, saying that his computer has a Athlon 2600+, 512MB RAM @166Mhz, ATI X1900 and a pirated version of Windows XP Professional, still going after 10 years!

How can anyone use that? It will barely run a modern web browser.

He would be on my old machine (Phenom X4 840, 4GB RAM, ASUS HD 6670) but he can't find a IDE and SATA MOBO (and yes it runs an IDE hard drive) to clone it to SATA and go on the new machine. The funny thing is that it is actually ok for normal use on XP, Firefox runs ok with 3-4 tabs open and does all the work he needs to. My mum is running a Core 2 Duo @2.20Ghz and 4GB RAM which is the 3rd fastest Desktop in the house. And there is just me with my Haswell i5, laughing at their inferior hardware.
