I just wanted to ask if it would be possible to make a map with eg. 8k res and still the 1m/px res. I am currently experimenting with mapmaking an would be happy to get some feedback. (My first map is releasing soon)
am replying bc i need to know this too. i found this very useful video and i kinda went insane making a 16km squared map. its awesome for flying over, but its at 3.24m/px or something.. and for a 16k picture, its "low res" when driving lol. i wonder if theres a way to get a higher res image, or images from google earth, just that would be an immense improvement. i also tried to double the image at 32k, but beamng would crash instantly so i guess the limit is 16k res lmfao i know ill need to make the map smaller. but am experimenting and pushing boundaries lol. but yeah, id love to know if 1m/px res is possible too.
thanks for your message! I found some useful videos: and Nobeam is using a 8k res height map for his newest map mod. here's him explaining the key features:
Anyways, yes, I recently thought of a theoretical way of making even bigger maps using multiple terrains, I really haven't gotten to it because I am making something else (which is taking 2 weeks more than I expected considering it's a small thing). I though of having multiple terrains and then an "intermission terrain" which is 80m²/px. No idea whether it works, but if it is possible, it's going to be revolutionary.
Keep going! That sounds like a very good idea. I also noticed that the Natural Playground map is 8k. I am going to take a closer look into the files and worldeditor
ill try that out later. ill post if its working --- Post updated --- I was able to import the 8k terrain and had no problems at all. It looks like the normal 1px/m res. i think this method is good enough for me but there are surely better ways to do that. does anybody have a better idea?
