Getting back to the truck, when he takes off the Miramar, you don't hear the gears shifting, but rather the engine hitting its rev limiter, a bit like a CVT would. Could this indicate that it has a diesel-electric propulsion system ? --- Post updated --- Do you mean the big empty island next to the actual island of Italy ?
i just rewatched it and you can hear it shifting gears its just a very fast gearshift like a powershift transmission on a tractor
Good point, I never even thought of that! There's a lot of islands around, so it's definitely a possibility --- Post updated --- Sounds like a really slushy auto
While you're both correct about those facts, I'm basing my thinking off of what types of vehicles get assigned to different nations/regions. The only vehicles we've gotten that have been larger and/or heavier than the Stambecco have been from US manufacturers. The largest factory engines from non-US manufacturers are the 5.0L V10 from the Scintilla and the 4.0L straight-six in the Hopper, while the US-built vehicles have been getting ever-larger engines in recent years. (Examples include the 6.9L V8 for the modern light Gavrils in 0.21 and the new T-Series engines (14.7L straight-six and 18.0L V8, vs the original 10.6L straight-six).) The Euro and Japanese brands also get very few trucks or SUVs - there's the Stambecco, the ute Miramar, the Hopper, and the Pigeon. Meanwhile, trucks and SUVs take up more than half of Gavril's roster, and Bruckell/Soliad have the truck/van Nine and van Lansdale, respectively. Even the Burnside has a "utility sedan" version. (I'm aware of the Wydra and Aurata, but those are ATVs - they're not really made for hauling large loads.) I would be absolutely fine with the haul truck and loader being from Sweden or South Korea or some other new nation. I even hope they are, because I love seeing the world of BeamNG.drive be expanded. And with the quarry likely being on Italy, it's quite possible for these two vehicles to be European/Asian. I just wouldn't be surprised if they ended up being from a US manufacturer. Hirochi also has the Aurata (added in 0.30 in September of 2023). There also are Imperial gauges for the RHD dashboard and metric ones for the LHD dashboard, so it's already possible to make UKDM and EUDM configs of the Miramar (and Covet/BX.) Hopefully, we get some official Euro- and/or UK configs for those cars in 0.38.
I seriously do wonder what kind of engine it'll have though. It sounds kinda close to the 900CUI Belasco-Diesel found in the T-Series, but I just can't see an engine that "small" finding its way into a pit mining dump truck. However, it does sound noticeably a bit different to the I6, so there's a chance it actually has a surprisingly larger displacement (it could pass as a V12 or in an extreme case a low revving V16) Also, considering it sorta sounds like the Belasco-Diesel, this could be evidence that it's American made. But in the end it's just a sound sample that could be used for anything. I don't imagine these things sound very different regardless of who makes them so that's 100% speculative
Its funny thats it also called an off-highway truck when they will only fit on the highway (or pretty wide road) lol.
As far as expanding Italy onto one of the adjacent islands, I don't know about that. West coast did it, but its actual boundaries are only 2km x 2km, whereas Italy is already a big map at 4km x 4 km. The teaser clearly has the same topography as Italy, but is there room to put the quarry just on the map itself? Maybe. There are so many good driving roads that it would be a shame to cut through any of them, but who knows? We don't know the full scale of the quarry, obviously, so it's hard to know how much rework they'd have to do. Italy could definitely get shown some love, though. It's a great map that has the potential to be more than it is Edit: There's a big bald patch of land South or South East? of Fastello which looks like a pretty good place for it
If the haul truck is going to be similar to the Cat 775, it could have the game's first V12 - the 775 uses a 1,648 cubic inch (27L) unit called the C27. As for the loader, the Cat 980 uses a 763 cubic inch (12.5L) straight-six turbo-diesel. And yeah, engine sounds between different diesel manufacturers aren't too different most of the time. There might be a wide road to and from this new area (or new map) for the haul truck to drive down. (At least, I hope so - it'd make very little sense to only be able to use the haul truck inside the quarry.) Are you referring to the area I circled in pink? That could work. I've circled two other areas that could also work in yellow (north of Fastello) and in bright-blue (east of Lucera). I don't know if the area between Fastello and Citta Vecchia could also work, and another area of possibility is the land east of Castelleto. I mean...unless the devs want to carve further into the mountains, I don't think the new quarry will be in WCA. It'd be real odd having a quarry right next to a large city, so the southwest (southeast in this image) is out of the question, IMO. Maybe it'll be north of the motorsports part or further east of Mount Wallis? I dunno - and it doesn't look like it'd be on WCA, judging by the trees.
You never know, how many times in a row was content added mostly to WCUSA? In the teaser the sun is setting (I think) so it would make sense that quarry is on the west of the map
If anyone remembers LJFHutch's devlogs about the making of italy from ~2016, the layout mockups he posted had a "mine" drawn just above castelletto: there's clearly a massive cutting in the teaser, so the quarry will be going into a hillside somwehere. while the exact location shown on the InDev layout doesn't have enough room (with switchback roads going everywhere), the other side of castelletto has a lot of empty space with no roads whatsoever: (stambecco for scale)
They change the sun settings for the teasers, so the direction of the sun sadly can't be used for hints
West Coast already has a small quarry that's packed inbetween other points of interest, so it's probably not being expanded, and another is likely not being added. It's called that because it's too slow to drive on the highway. If you see one on the highway, it's just disassembled parts being hauled on a trailer. While true, the rear fascia only supports fat plates (the ones you'd see in Japan or the USA). There is a mod on the repo that adds some EUDM specific parts.
i'm just imagining the first to third thing you see in the vehicle selector being a bigass dumptruck and that would be unbelievably funny realistically though i don't know if autobello would be a suitable manufacturer. most economy car brands like fiat and vw don't produce heavy trucks of this scale, though the existence of the stambecco may suggest that autobello has a bit of a broader product range. volvo and mercedes also produce heavy trucks, but as car brands they lean more towards luxury or mid-tier, which wouldn't really make sense for autobello. i think i'm betting on it being a completely new brand
Autobello could potentially also include Iveco, but the most they offer are trucks and military vehicles, no heavy duty construction.
ik im late bc i was at my gf but HOLY SHIT WE HAVE A BIG ASS TRUCK, feeling very excited about this one
I imagine the largest thing that would be in Autobello's lineup would be a 2 ton truck to mirror the Fiat 682/619/690
