If you have the time and access to the Beamng discord channel read the last entries in the modding maps section. Then you get a picture that we don't have that functionality in BeamNg. But even if you just want to import terrains the old way my tool will be much more convient and doesn't crash the game
Okay now I get it! I haven´t seen the the MapNG tool so far, this looks really useful. Will your tool be able to work with the satellite-selection of MapNG? For me, the timing for these new tools could not be better, I was thinking of recreating a real place for the next map project and this is spot on what I need. Really looking forward to it!
I don't know what you exactly mean with satelite selection. You just select the terrain you want with the preferred terrainsize and export the geotiff. Thats all. You select the geotiff in my tool and the magic happens. What I don't support right now is using the satelite image overay as material basecolor. I see no use of it tbh. My tool wants you to work with beamng terrain materials from the start.
What I meant by "satellite selection" is if there is a terrain selection (like in MapNG) build in your tool (where we see the map and make a rectangle for our selection..) or if we use the export from MapNG. Satellite image Overlay as basecolour would actually be very useful (at least for me) to correctly place houses and different objects in the world before replacing it later on with beamng materials.
Cool! It's like you're reading my mind for what I'm planning to do next. I have plans to create a really cool Real World area near where I live and this tool looks like a real time saver for creating the elevation data and heightmap. Looking forward to it. ...now if I could only figure out how to make glass objects for maps I'd be all set... (seems all the tutorials are for vehicles not static objects) But @AlexKidd71 this really is an awesome tool. Great work. I would love to see BeamNG somehow make this an official tool and give you some kickbacks for it. (but I know how that stuff works and it's not likely).
If you have time til Christmas you will be able to use it I guess my next version will get a little bit of attention. All I can say: It’s getting crazy! --- Post updated --- Go to Johnson valley and take a look at the material glass_transparent I guess. Inspect the alpha settings, transparency settings are there too I think and inspect the textures regarding alpha channel.
