They're mostly yapping in the Discord (at least, Panda and Stenyak are). Speaking of which... Hmmm... I still don't think this means that 0.38 will release in January/February, but this could be a thing for 0.39 or 0.40.
There's further explanation here, but TL;DR - the way that the file structure works for Beam is getting revamped to reduce/eliminate compatibility issues and file migrations. We already got the first half of it in 0.37, and while the devblog said that the second half was planned for 0.38, it probably will come out in a later update.
Sorry about that, I think (or hope!) it's clear that we never try to intentionally overhype things. It's never our intention to leave anyone hanging or anything. Sometimes bugs are discovered last minute and we are forced to delay for the sake of the community. Almost always this is just some hours. Very often it's days. And rarely this has been multiple weeks. We're not happy doing that tho: it sucks for the community to wait (less than releasing a half-done update tho!), and is extremely taxing and exhausting for us devs (after release we're still working hard for hotfixes, the only rest we get is a few hours after initial release, while waiting for the initial community feedback and bug reports). So TLDR, for now there's no release date on sight unfortunately. The original intention was to fully finalize all changes for december. However we've decided to gradually roll out some specific settings over Q1 2026 instead (probably in v0.39, tho still not fully decided), to reduce the chances of breaking the game during holiday season (and also to avoid having to leave our families and our resting time, to work on such potential bugfixes).
So I assume it will be late in the month? Understand waiting and fixing the bugs instead of releasing. Hope you guys figure it out, we are dying for this update, you guys always deliver. Best game ever.
Okay, so 0.38 will still release in December? That's good to hear. I don't really care when it gets released in December - if y'all have to release it next week, feel free to.
I have faith in you guys, you are better devs then most large studios *mincraft* Huh? Must have been the wind
Hmm honestly I never paid much attention to this myself. But we have internal development stuff on Steam that will change daily, at the very least (being automated). But can also get updated easily 5-20 times in more busy periods. Last month, for certain feature, I had to do some tests and I was updating that several times in a day. Not sure if that showed up in SteamDB. And for comparison, the normal internal development builds, get modified easily 50-200 times a day outside busy periods.
No worries, the rest of us are patient. Thanks for coming forward with this! We're eagerly awaiting all the cool stuff you guys have been working on, whenever that may be.
