My walls are plaster and the router is as far away as it can get because my ISP couldn't get into my attic. Every meter counts. Well, in this case, every 1.25 meters.
move desktop pc into same room as router, connect directly, buy extremely long hdmi cables and such, run to your room, profit from good internet, AND if your pc is ever loud for whatever reason, not having to hear it whatsoever or, buy an extremely long ethernet patch cable, enjoy fast internet
It's either wireless or powerline to get to my room. Powerline speed is completely dependent on how good the wiring in your house is. My house is 50 years old, the wiring not much younger, powerline may not be an option either. I actually still have yet to move my system, I've always done speed testing where it sits. So, if I move it even fractionally closer and speed fractionally increases, I'm in business. If not, back to square one, try an option I haven't thought of yet. - - - Updated - - - Also, if xampp could hurry up, that would be great.
i am worried about whether or not i should buy a different hard drive or hope that my seagate external will miraculously last longer than its brethren. otherwise i am approaching the 1.5 year mark that apparently is where 50-ish% of the same drives will fail.
If you've notice speed decreases and/or strange noises (clicking, grinding, etc.), I'd say it's time to start looking. If not, you may be ok.
just looked on the seagate site, and it says that it is okay if it's making hard click noises. at least occasionally. it says it's from the drive head parking for hibernation mode or something. it isn't making any constant noises yet.
Occasional clicks from parking are usual. I'm saying repeated clicks during operation and missing files, etc. But, if you say there's no unusual noises, it'll be fine.
My seagate was built on immature tech and actually had an option to get a slightly bigger one free once they figured out it was börk. I never did and now it has lasted 5 years. Most died within a year. I'm kinda scared for it, though most is on the SSD now.
Maybe for my birthday i'll get an internal hdd from htsg or something. i'm planning on getting a k95 rgb with mx blue though so if it's expensive i may not be able to.
I just figured out that my Laptop (not the MacBook) has a Hitachi TravelStar in it. Oh boy... It's the desktop Hitachi's that are the problem... Right? ...right?
I've had my 500GB Barracuda for over 2 years without issue. Hm. I've never had a drive, other than one or two ancient laptop IDE drives, fail.
Yup. My 500GB Travelstar is 5 years old and still perfect. No errors so far despite being dropped at least a dozen times.
I have a Hitachi deskstar 7k2000 1TB, its over 4 years old, It has been turned on 2016 times and has been powered up for 10698 hours and runs at a solid 32*c. All of its statistics are still reporting very good values. Hard drives tend to be pretty reliable, its no where near 50% failing after 1.5 years. The vast majority of them outlast their useful lifespan to the owner. In general 3TB models are the least reliable while the lower capacity models tend to have better reliability. Who would have known that the more data you try and cram into a hard drive the more likely it is to fail.
That fills me with confidence, actually. I have another one (160gig) in my rig. I use it for video storage.
To anyone who's wisdom teeth are coming through... I now fully comprehend and understand your pain. I've not been this miserable in a long time. Here was me wondering how it could possibly hurt when my molars came in with absolutely nothing worth noting. aaaaa kill me... Kill me all four times this is going to happen to me.
according to my dentist i have shark teeth so that's cool as for hard drive dying stuff, my 1tb hdd in my pc is a seagate, have had it for about 2 years now with 0 problems whatsoever now that i think about it, the only hard drive that i've ever had die on me is the one in my laptop, and it was because of my youngest brother always pulling it off the desk and it dropping to the floor the fact that it survived as long as it did is pretty cool actually
My brain constantly emits dangerous psy-emissions which write off my hdd's one after another, they last like, a year or two before fatal corruption and imminent death. Every time i boot this guy, in bios it throws out a error dump of a disk heavily corrupted, but i don't care anymore, i don't even mout it. Oh and yes i have never had more space than 260GB, and i am okay with it.
Fellas, you gotta check this out. 3ish years old, but another classic I think. Site says outside US? - https://vimeo.com/ondemand/driveplus11 use Vimeo, but prices? I don't get it.
