the easiest would be downgrade to fedora 43 simple as is ;] other wise it would lead to finding cursed library in fedora 44 and replace it with fedora 43 and crossing fingers it will be compatible ;]

downgrading the whole system just for one game is kinda stupid...
looks like i'll have to wait for a response from support or developers:)
well, have a nice day or night i guess:)
thanks for trying to help anyway.

    hey again, pawelek:)

just wanted to tell you that i'm a total idiot, because turns out - my ram was unstable, and i just ignored that fact for too long, until i started seeing the exact same crashes in heavily modded minecraft...

moral or tl;dr — i clocked down my ram and loosened the timings a bit, and now not only beamng is working perfectly just like before, but minecraft is too.

i don't know what else to say, just have a nice day/night, and don't be as stupid as me:)

is it normal that my path is /.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/data/BeamNG/BeamNG.drive/current instead of the one listed in the first post?

edit: forgot to mention, Fedora 44, Steam installed via Flatpak.

I think it's because of the Flatpak. I installed the .deb version of Steam on Mint and it puts it in the regular location. I think Flatpaks have some sort of restriction or something on file locations so maybe it just restricts games downloaded on Steam to its own app folder in /.var/app. I don't think that it being there would cause any issues tho, but I could be wrong.

yeah, everything works fine, i was simply confused by the directory being different

with that said, its more-so a GNOME thing, but i get spammed with "application not responding" popups when loading a map or spawning a new car. again, technically a GNOME issue than a BeamNG issue, and technically an annoyance at most, but it'll still be nice if the game wouldn't report itself as not responding so often (and im not gonna explain why i made the conscious decision to use GNOME)

It's the same on KDE, we are fixing or already fixed that on our side :)

Is there any reason or benefit to let Steam process the vulkan shaders? I've been skipping it since I started using Mint but I always wondered if I should let them finish. I decided to let them process, but they took forever, and once done they took up ~20 GB, but then dropped to ~6 GB once the game launched. I thought it really wouldn't make a difference since the game caches stuff on its own? Not to mention that I can also just run the game without Steam as well. There doesn't seem to be any performance issues or long loading times, so I just assumed they aren't necessary.

I don't see it helping with BeamNG. You still get a lengthy shader compile in-game on first boot after major updates/driver updates :(

how does the linux build handle swap memory?

im wondering if im the one missing something here or if beamng actually has a bug.

on windows, i could just spawn 100 traffic and itd automatically allocate ssd space as RAM.

i have 32gb of ram installed but i added a 16gb swap partition to hopefully prevent me from running out of ram on linux, and when beamng reaches my full 32gb of ram it just crashes instantly?

am i missing something here? shouldnt beamng start using some of the swap memory i allocated specifically for this purpose?

    EDIT!!!!
My friend recommended i try Zram.
and now i have more traffic than ever on linux!!

awesome stuff. gosh i love linux.

BeamNG has no choice here, it simply asks the OS for some memory, and your OS decides where that goes, who gets paged out to swap, who stays in main ram, who ends up in zram, etc. It's possible you had your regular swap file misconfigured.

    allright makes sense.
from my understanding, zram is way faster than the regular swap file which is why it crashes with the regular swap file.
i know the regular swap file worked in other scenarios and other softwares, so its not misconfigured i believe.

but adding zram on top + the swap file as lower priority helped and fixed it for me.

Crashing is unrelated to the speed of each cache layer, but to the amount of total cache size. If the file cache was correctly setup, then it's possible that zram added just enough that the total available amount is enough to avoid the crash. Adding even more pagefile size should have achieved the same (tho being much slower of course).

In any case glad you solved it :)

Found a possible issue when focus is supposed to be lost. If I press Super + 1 to open Firefox while the game is in borderless mode for example, everything works properly (FFB stops and audio stops). But if I alt-tab back to the game and then back to Firefox, the FFB and audio don't stop. It happens with other programs too, not just Firefox. There is also some weird behavior with unmaximized windows as well. I tested in safe mode as well as a clean install of Linux Mint which had the same issue. It could very well be an issue with X11 or something else with the OS, but I haven't noticed a similar issue in other programs. Here's a video showing the issue.

So I am currently using the mod Tyre Wear and Thermals Rework by nezapomnyat and anytime I try to modify the vehicle (in this case add power steering to a vehicle) the car becomes undriveable and unresponsive to any input (like the old white D series issue) and I receive a "LUA error: C++ exception". When I run the game under proton I don't seem to get this issue and my cars run perfectly fine after I make changes. Beyond the surface level I can't tell you what went wrong as I can't make sense out of the output in the console.

EDIT: Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this I just thought it related to it as it seemed to be a Linux exclusive issue which I've never seen with a mod before.

EDIT 2: Okay so the mod has been updated to address the problem and the issue persists. I have cleared the game's cache, reinstalled the mod and even cleared the 0.38 folder to a clean slate and anytime the mod is installed and running I get the LUA C++ issue. At this point my only thought can be this is an issue directly with a change to LUA and C++ on Linux that has effected the Linux client and causes these issues as I didn't experience this a month ago back in June. I am on Arch Linux with the 7.0.14 kernel.

EDIT 3: Now I've attached a log with a fresh 0.38 settings folder with only the tyre thermals mod present

Hey, I tried Bazzite (terrible for me, btw) but decided to go back to Fedora workstation. Thing is... My BeamNG doesn't load anymore.

Ran it through Steam with the argument ./BinLinux/BeamNG.drive.x64 %command% and, to see what the problem is, ran it from the folder with the following command from terminal:

    ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/BeamNG.drive/BinLinux ✘ ABRT 8m 8s 20:26:25
    ❯ ./BeamNG.drive.x64 &> ~/beam_log.txt

As you can see, I manually closed the ame after 8 minutes running.

Here's the log, and attached, my fastfetch. Since the log already states my username, I'm not gonna bother with blurring it from fastfetch.

Worth mentioning that the installation was fresh, although it pulled stuff from the cloud upon launch. Should I delete my cloud?

First of all, you don't need any launch arguments, Linux native version is the default.
Secondly, the issue comes from the crash camera. Please try to verify game files, if that doesn't help, temporarily rename your game settings folder and try again. If that doesn't help again, try to disable Steam Cloud temporarily.

I don't need launch arguments to run the native version? I didn't know that!

What I did after your comment:
    -Deleted temp folder
-Disabled Steam Cloud (I think? I switched it off in the Properties menu)
    -Verified game files via Steam
-Deleted settings folder (I have it backed up)

Game always softlocks when loading the “cone” icon. But after doing this it worked. I'll try to set my settings back, without cloud.

Worth mentioning... I'm having an issue with my nvidia driver, where some things are shown super small (like my Switch emulator, Tomb Raider 2013's launcher and the Steam overlay message). I think it's because I'm using Nouveau.

why do you even use Nouveau instead of the Nvidia drivers?
