BeamNG 0.39 is just a joke,On the same computer, 0.38 gives me a better experience.,I am wondering why optimization is so poor on my PC.:(
By the way,Will there be a lot more optimizations and mod compatibility in future versions?:)
    (Sorry for my poor English)

I tried the update yesterday and gotta say it worked great and looked fantastic. The UI changes are welcome, even if they take a minute to learn. Really happy with the lights, nighttime driving is absolutely fantastic. Only problem is bright headlights that make the surroundings too dark to see, but I guess that will see some changes in the future. And the new baguette car is great, loved the track day config. Great work.

Again, what are your computer specs?

The devs cannot possibly make the game look beautiful AND make it run on potato laptops. You have to accept that your hardware is old and live with the results. I used to play at 10-15 fps on a 12" Pentium laptop which obviously sucks but I wouldn't complain to the devs about performance.

For the sake of these players though, it might be a nice consideration to have a 0.38 build on steam. And obviously they are going to keep optimizing.

The skybox is broken and appears pitch black in Light Runner mode, and the whole map seems a bit too dark maybe
    upload_2026-7-30_10-38-35.png
I feel like the auto exposure can go a little too high, as when there is a full moon the map is almost as visible as daytime with headlights off, and lights get blown out massively

Yes, I had such an error message, but it pointed to another file than in your screenshot. Don' know what this could be about...

I haven't cleared cache yet and didn't reinstall though.

so uhhh, not sure if bug or just intentional for performance reasons, or maybe just a setting i missed, but it seems like when you're not in a car, the reflections do not reflect your environment, but what i'm assuming is like, the center of the map or something? here's a clip from west coast showing what i mean

(DISCLAIMER: This is MY opinion and you DONT have to agree with it!) So, the long awaited update is there. i looked into it a bit and maybe its a bit early for the final critics here, but i would like to share my first thoughts of it. the most obvious it the graphics changes, it looks great and especially the new clouds are cool. still i wonder why it tanks my fps by such a HUGE amount and my gtx 1660 super is by no means a bad gpu. the only maps that still run at a stable 60 fps are grid (small, pure), gridmap 2.0, small island USA and johnson valley. on other maps there is a big fps loss of 20 to 30fps. for example the diffrence in west coast USA (0.38 -> 0.39) in VULKAN is 30fps less (75fps -> 45fps) and i'm not sure if its worth the better graphics for me, as many other maps are a similar case of performance drop. the next thing is the ui... i understand its changed for controller (because of the upcomming ps5 release) but its too much. best described as "compact, but not practical". you need many clicks for stuff that just took one in 0.38. next and last one is HIGHLY SUBJECTIVE, the new car. just by the looks of it i expected a mid engine vehicle with rwd drivetrain, but as i have seen now its the next car based on the fcv platform (used for a hatchback and a suv car) thats not really optimal for a lightweight sporty car. also the optics of the car seem a bit undecided. it looks like 3 cars mixed. front a mix of audi tt and peugeot onyx and the rear is mostly a 370z so the car does not have a clear identity in its looks. i would have expected something more in the direction of the lotus elise/exige sport that would also have filled the spot of the mid engine cars. the only ones we have yet are both supercars of diffrent epochs (bolide and scintilla) and a little light car would have been perfect. i might change my mind over time as i still have to get used to all the new stuff, at the moment i'm still undecided about this update. huge performance drops, overwhelming ui and a car that is undecided in its looks. this all seems a bit like "just a rant about the update" but for me there are barely any things that improve my experience of the game (so far). maybe some fixes and optimizations will come in the future for stuff, we will see.

Entering tunnels, especially in Utah, feels wonky at the moment, as it goes like this:
    - from the outside, the tunnel looks a bit too bright
    - there is a random flash of light as you enter
    - the auto exposure adjusts following the darkness effect fading in so it gets darker then brighter
I assume the darkness hack for tunnels can't go away right now, but is this planned to be improved in the next major update ?

Just wanted to throw in my performance experience with 0.39.
    My spec:
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super (16 GB)
    Intel i5-14600
    RAM: 32GB
    Windows 11, DirectX 12
    Resolution: 3440x1440

Before 0.39 I was usually running with the "high" graphics preset (in DirectX 11). When doing time trials, I reduced a couple of settings, to hit a stable 60FPS.
With 0.39, my performance seems to have improved. Without any settings changes, I got stable >70FPS on West Cost with traffic. I have now dialed up to "ultra" and still stay between 60 and 70 FPS, with some 1% drops to ~50, so very playable for casual driving.
And of course, it looks phenominal. I really dig the auto-exposure thing. (My display does not support HDR). It might be a little bit too intense at the moment, but IMHO it really does a lot for the overall experience.
To all involved developers and artists: thanks for the great work! :)

The new UI is meh. When removing a vehicle you'll need to WAIT FOR THE ANIMATION TO POP up then click OK, for every new vehicle you remove. On older versions removing multiple(not all) vehicles was much faster.

imo, UI animations especially loading progress bar for editing UI apps should be removed to conserve computational power

I tested the new ESC understeer correction logic on the FCV. It works much better. Check the rear brake temperature as you turn the steering wheel

EDIT: Why the new vehicle shows up as "Cherrie FCV Arderte" on the UI menu?

Gotta disagree on your take about the new car. Clearly it was inspired by the Peugeot RCZ, the rear end (especially the 190 diesel version with the exhaust on one side), the roof pillars (being chrome on many configs just like the RCZ) all closely resemble the small, yet affordable sports car, in my opinion, this is a much better option than a "lotus type car" and quite realistic aswell because it uses the FCV Platform, shared with the Tograc (Crossover) and with the Vivace (Hatchback), same goes with the RCZ, that uses the FP2 Platform which is shared by the Peugeot 308 (Hatchback) and 3008/5008 (Crossover/SUV), the Ardente doesn't have an identity crisis as you described it, it is quite literally one of the most realistic cars they've made.

I noticed that auto exposure works weird when during the sunset if you drive towards the sun, everything looks like a daytime, and going east everything's dark as it's night.
in terms of performance in dx12 i have 60 fps in alivieska map (in .38 had near 120), but it's way more stable, because it barely dropped when i spawned traffic.
    My specs:
    Intel i5-10400F
    RTX 3060 12GB
16GB of ram (+48 of pagefile)
Windows 10 (i think in 11 it'd work better as it was with .38)

Makes more sense then. i didnt really look into the shared platform thing in real life with the peugeot stuff. as i said in my previous post its a really early thing and might not be my final thought on it. may have to play around with this car but looks wise its not really my thing, neither outside or inside. drive wise it will be similar to the vivace i guess. still i hope we will get some light sports car like a lotus or mazda mx5
