If you like to play around with physics sandboxes, there's something I can show you that explains better than opinions and kind words Numbers don't lie.
It's 100% worth it...just keep in mind that the game is not finished. Don't expect a story mode/races etc. yet.(races will be there pretty soon though...perhaps next update). But yeah...for 20$ I consider this a steal atm anyways.
It's not really a 'game' yet, only a simulation. you can tool around and stuff, but there's no direction for things to do (like racing).
Don't worry, I understand that. I'm looking at BeamNG as a physics sandbox, where you can fly, drive and crash things for no apparent reason.
It didn't take me 2 years and 2 months to decide to buy BeamNG, more like 2.2 milliseconds. The only realistic and common sense reply to your thread is: Best $20 I've EVER spent.
It's definitely worth it, you shouldn't be disappointed. For what you seem to want to do it's great, I've put more hours on this than Euro Truck Simulator 2... It's also a good game for cruising around maps like East Coast USA. Enjoy, when you get it.
If you like to play around with physics, there's really no reason not to get it. Just make sure that you have a decent PC (especially CPU wise), otherwise it won't be so satisfying... A somewhat recent i7 or better works best
It's definately worth it. Also, as a side note, I recommend getting a racing wheel if you can/don't have one. And for the love of god avoid used wheels. I bought a 10 year old fanatec carrera wheel and quickly realized what a mistake I made.
Yeah, a racing wheel made the game about a hundred times more fun, but I still logged all kinds of time before I got my wheel.
To attack this question from a different angle: it really depends on you, although I think anyone would enjoy just driving around and wrecking cars in slow motion. But you can't expect it to be an arcade game, this is all about physics and realism (which sounds great to me!). And have patience! I just have to say, the developers have done an incredibly good job with how the game feels with an controller. I prefer to play racing games with a wheel and usually hate driving with an controller. But in this game, they really hit the spot. E.g. in Next Car Game I hate driving with it, and by wheel is the only way I'd even consider playing it. In BeamNG.drive I actually enjoy using a controller. So, promising input support. I don't like the force feedback at the moment, but I'm sure it'll be greatly improved.
