Just a quick question, when someone asks you for the date would you reply with "today is April 20th, 2015" or "today is the 20th of April, 2015"? Most people here would say that today is April 20th, 2015, hence why we put the month before the day.
Every single person I know uses DD/MM/YYYY, even in spoken format. Saying that it's April 20th just sounds wrong. Either way, the one true way of formatting it is the glorious ISO 8601. 2015-04-20 or bust.
DD/MM/YY also here. Learnt that I'm the first Bosnian accepted to the Cavendish School of English. Got a 40% discount. yey discounts. So, anyone has any tips what to do in the UK? This will be 200x more different than Bosnia, so please gib advice.
I barely know anything about bosnia but i know a little bit about the uk (since i live there). It will be a bit colder in the uk, the weather is generally quite mild, throughout the year it will usually stay between -5 and 30 (basically the two extremes), winter tends to be single digits, summer tends to be around 20c but it will vary a lot, dont be surprised to have a cold rainy morning and then warm and sunny afternoon. The winter months will be darker here due to equator stuff. If you want to use a tv you will need to pay a TV licence in the uk, but you get to enjoy the bbc channels which have no adverts. Generally the internet is decent and most universities will have wifi for you to use. Public transport tends to be pretty good but is not always on schedual. Food here is pretty good, there are many many supermarkets aimed at many different price points. There are many places to eat out as well at pretty much any price point. If you are in or near a big town then you will be able to buy whatever you need (many large towns have speciality shops for different cultures of food). I have no idea what your english listening skills are like but you will probably have issues understanding some people from some areas, the main reason i say that is because occassionally english people wont be able to understand english speakers from certain areas of the country (i have seen them add subtitles to someones accent on tv before) tl:dr The UK is a very interesting and weird place, but its pretty awesome because of that.
Weather. No problem. Here it varies from -15 to 35 during the year. TV tax doesn't worry me. I'll have accomidation in a family. Also the transport is provided by the school. If the internet is faster than 5/2 I have no problems. Food. Don't really matter, but it will be better than the one here for sure. English listening skills are ok. I'll be on the south shore, so I think there wont be much problems. Thanks
Around that area of the country it will be very similar to what you will hear on the BBC news. I would suggest watching some uk bbc programs if you want a general idea since recently they have been trying to get as many accents on tv as possible. They tend to be quite entertaining anyway. If you are staying in an old building it may be worth asking if the hot water is ok to drink. In some old buildings the hot water may not be intended for drinking. But you should be totally fine. In terms of legal questions the gov.uk website is very easy to use: https://www.gov.uk/
I am from USA (MM/DD/YYYY) but I forget what day it is all the time, so for me it is usually DAY/DD [Wed/23]. Discount/Scholarship Congrats! : Also being from America my brain is bigot like, uh racist, er stereotype, fuct wrong, so when going to the UK remember, exercise, do many push/pull ups, sit-ups (abdomen work), run your ass off, run run, walk/bicycle everywhere, go to 1 Manchester United soccer(Futbol) game and FIGHT! (somehow, you know?) See these are bad ideas by me, and Scotland with England, that might be blood. Drive on left ftw.
2 things. #1, tornado warning at school, stuck in a room for 25 minutes by myself. #2, got a comment gilded for no reason really. EDIT: Posted on 4:20 on 4/20. Blaze it.
