With non-k edition Intel CPU's your overclocking options are limited. Not everything is locked down but basically everything you want is. I have heard that on some non K CPU's you can actually increase the multiplier a little bit to give you an extra 200mhz or so, might be worth looking in the BIOS to see if it will let you. You can always look into BLCK, it will allow you to push marginally faster but not much, it will also overclock your RAM in the process as well as many other things which is why you cant push it much at all. I have heard that you can push higher but it will start to force you to disable cores which is ultimately worse anyway. Linux Mint is pretty good. Its Linux but with a more windows like interface which makes it a bit easier to use for people who are used to windows. Pretty much any version of Linux that has a nice GUI will lag if you run it from a disk (dvd/cd etc) The transfer speeds are slow and you are trying to transfer lots of very small files which makes matters worse. Ubuntu is one of the heavier distributions but it has a nice interface on top of it, there are some snooping concerns about this distro as well but that can be turned off in the settings. You will hear many Linux users claiming that Mint is crap etc, these are the more elitist Linux users. While you should be very open to advise the Linux community can be pretty hipster like in places, unless you are using the "correct" distribution you are "doing it wrong", ultimatly whatever allows you to get stuff done in a way that you enjoy is good. Sadly GTA5 and BeamNG will not run on Linux so you will need windows to run them or some form of workaround (aka, wine etc) and even then it can be hit or miss as to what works. It may be worth noting that BeamNG will apparently get Linux support. In general my advise to gamers is stick with Windows, for now it is the better OS to be on because of compatibility, but that is becoming less of an issue every passing day. So you could take this as an opportunity to install Linux and have some fun messing around with it until you are ready to settle down with a permanent operating system. Try out a couple different distributions without the worry of loosing anything and see if you want to keep a partition for one of them.
Alright. this is pissing me off. i have 2 wd blacks in a raid. and they are slow as crap. as in, i have to restart my computer 2 times in a row sometimes to get to the point where i can open skype successfully, explorer windows and some others. it takes about 5ish minutes for it to load from when i login, to when i have everything launched that i needed. and that is on a good day lol EDIT: just had to restart a second time. b/c explorer windows were not showing up. the process was, but not the window. also skype didnt start up. of course, after this second estart everything starts fine. that is until i shutdown again/
If I had to upgrade a part in one year's time (That's my plan, upgrade one part EXACTLY one year after I get a new one, March 22nd, the day I got the computer ) what should I upgrade? CPU? GPU? Get more dedotated wam? storage? or PSU? (400w) I'm confused, I usually have something in mind, but I'm blank!. I don't know my mobo, some cheap one, it doesn't even have a optical sound port on the back. Specs are in my signature.
I fink you need more dedicated wam for your server... I think that the PSU would be a good option, 400W isn't a lot and if you want some head room I would recommend some more and the GPU good but a 970 or 970SLI would be a lot better.
Should I get a Q6600, new board and 4GB more RAM? Around 100€, should keep my rig alive a bit longer.
Just tried to run GTA 5 on my laptop and even though it was throwing up warnings about the VRAM, it was going well! I got around 25-30FPS on the lowest settings I could and was sort of playable! My dad says he knows someone who might be able to get rid of the virus in return for fixing his Freelander that has a reputation for going wrong... Hope it works but until then it looks like sub 30FPS for me
Yeah but that's just no fun! Anyway, he is an extremely smart guy that works in IT and can smell a registry virus from a mile away. My dad is an extremely good mechanic and can fix his Land Rover no problem. The only things I actually need on that PC is my school stuff which isn't really essential anyway and the game saves, most of which I don't care about or backed up, the only part I backed up... The problem is downloading 500GB+ worth of games with around 6-7MB/s actual download speed even though speedtest.net says it is 50 down and 6 up..
Well, im thinking of saving up for a new computer if can. Im going to reuse case/psu and maybe hard drives. Is this a good build for future proofing/only playing beamng? BUILD HERE I have over 70 computers, that i think im gonna start selling locally. not shipping, so dont ask. once i get enough, i think i will buy that build.
make sure it fits in your case all of the parts, stock cases aren't big and prolly don't have space for radiators
i have a cooler master HAF something or other. it should all fit fine. the 240mm rad will fit up on the top vent area.
I assume you also have a good PSU? And hard drives/SSD? And, why X99? Unless you do video editing, it won't make a huge difference. I'd also recommend getting a gaming card. Gigabyte G1, MSI Gaming, ASUS Strix, EVGA SSC, they're all great. There's nothing wrong with the non-gaming MSI, it's just horribly dull.
alright. thanks! so you would suggest i go 1150? thats what i currently have actually(an i5 4670k). would it be better to just upgrade gpu/cpu/ram? I have a 600w psu and a gigabyte z97x udh3 motherboard. My hard drives i believe should work just fine. I have an ssd, but i think, based on how fast i fill a hdd, and how much maintenance is required, i may not use it. I will look into a tutorial before this final decision though. EDIT should i go i7 4790k? i heard those are only worth getting for video editing. anyways, heres a slightly cheaper 1150 upgrade. i can switch the i7 out if needed http://pcpartpicker.com/p/LbkmjX
