So you bought a GPU and you don't know how to install it...

Are you sure your PSU has an 8pin at least.. I have a bad feeling about it.. :\

this is how i think you install it:

    1.) unplug every thing
2.)open case and take out gpu
3.)plug your system in and plug in the monitor to your mobo
    4.) delete old gpu software
5.)unplug everything and install the new gpu
6.)plug back in pc and plug the monitor into mobo again
    7.)install the new gpu software
8.)shut off system and plug monitor into gpu
9.)turn system back on and let stuff update
    10.)then go benchmark

    Correct me if im wrong.

If you are already coming from another Nvidia card you can just do this (at least, that's what I did):

    - Turn off PC
    - Remove older GPU
    - Install new GPU
    - Boot PC
    - Install drivers (The nvidia thing will just replace the older ones with the new one)
    - Done

If you are coming from AMD, this should work too:

    - Turn off PC
    - Remove older GPU
    - Install new GPU
    - Boot PC
    - Remove AMD drivers
    - Install Nvida drivers
    - Done

I'm not entirely sure, but you don't have to mess with plugging to Mobo output. The Nvidia card should work even without drivers (but system would recognize it as basic video card, or similar)

Both amd and nvidia cards can be run in pure vesa mode if need be, although windows does a fair job at loading properly anyway.

There are tons of videos on how to do this, but most are about "how to build a computer", not "how to install a graphics card".

    Here you have plenty:

I always uninstall the graphics driver first (Windows have a built-in compatibility mode driver that'll work with every graphics card, so don't worry about not having a graphics driver installed). You don't have to uninstall it beforehand, but it doesn't hurt. There is a slight, marginal chance of problems accuring, most likely there won't be any if you just install it over the old one (clean install, it removes the old driver). But as I said, it doesn't hurt.

The turn off the computer, switch off power supply button. Keep the cable in (keeps it grounded). If you don't have anti-static hand-thingy, discharge yourself by touching the ground pin in the wall outlet (if it's exposed). Don't wear wool clothes or work on carpets (avoid things that generate static electricity).

Open case, screw out old GPU. Toss it, store it, sell it, wreck it, paint it, hang it on the wall, wear it as a necklace, or whatever you want to do with it.

Screw in the new GPU, most likely in the same slot the old GPU were put in. Use the same screw to fasten the card. Don't force it into the contact, just carefully shove it in there. Sometimes there is a lever to open the slot (on the edge, right side).

Close door, boot computer (means starting it). Install the new driver (link here). Restart the computer (it will ask you this).

Optionally install MSI Afterburner and start overclocking your new GPU. Or underclock it, if you think it performs TOO GOOD and want to reduce the performance.

No pressure, if you make a mistake you'll only wreck your computer:

(Seriously, this is piece of cake.)
