Hot Rod - '33 Ford Coupe

This is something that I did for a final during a 3D and Animation course I did a couple of years ago, it's still nowhere near finished as all that's been done so far is the body and wheels.

After seeing what everyone else has been doing on here, I thought I might pitch my idea and try get this working in the game.
Let me know what you guys think and I'll do my best to get it finished soon.

Ideas and criticism is welcome, just don't be too harsh as this was my first 3D model. :p

So far, the body has about 5k faces and the wheels are roughly 10k faces per wheel(I'll remake these with a lower poly count)

Here are a few renders that I did a while back, still undecided on the lights.

Edit: Could I get a mod to add an 'e' to the end of the title of this thread? It seems as though the forums don't accept accented e's lol

Wow, if this is your first model, I'd be pretty blown away to see what you can come up with later on. :D

But this looks great! The headlights would look better if done in a more traditional way IMO, it's up to you.

Goddamit! If that's the Factory Five Hot Rod, I started on mine about a week ago, for RoR, but decided to port it to BNGDrive.

Ahh well, looks like we'll have two now :)

Yea, the headlights were just an idea I had floating round and wanted to try, they're actually off of a late model BMW M Series but modded to hang on a wing, I just like the halo look :p
Traditional style is the way I originally wanted, and probably will still go.

In fact, I did actually model this off one of the Factory Five coupes as they were some of the only ones I could find with orthographic style shots I could use as reference haha. Doesn't matter how many there are, the more the merrier imo ;)

I haven't exactly been doing this long so I don't know how good this advice will be, but for the models I've done so far, make the base model as low poly as possible, and then add a subsurface modifier and crank that up until you're pleased with the result. Also the modifier will help tell you where you need to add more edge loops in case you need a certain area to have a sharp curve or bend in it.

I really like how this thing looks! I think it would be great for BeamNG, it looks amazing for a first model.

Re: Hot Rod - '33 Ford Coupe

Quick question for anyone viewing this. For this Hot Rod, I'm wanting to stick to how Factory Five build their custom '33 Hot Rod, including the chassis and my question is, is the chassis too complicated for BNG?

Here's a few pictures as an example of what I'm currently working on in regards to the chassis.

That's what I did for my RoR version - started with the box frame chassis, which I think needed about 60 nodes.

I would do the same again, for BNGDrive too, if I make one. I don't think 60 nodes is too many for a chassis like that.

This is looking very nice! Custom sounds need to be implemented (I don't think you can make custom sounds at the moment?) and this Rod will be complete. :)

    Update: Chassis/Frame and Suspension.

Bit of an update; have almost finished the chassis/frame of the rod, once that's done I'll need to figure out how to do the suspension and engine, and then get it into the game engine.

Any tips or constructive criticism is welcome, or just general help with the suspension and how I should model that.

    Re: Update: Chassis/Frame and Suspension.

Wow... that looks absolutely amazing. This should work well in-game :D

Now, as for the suspension: I think the front springs/shocks should be showing at the front (outside the car, but attached to the frame... would require holes in the bodywork, but that should be simple, right?). Not sure how to model that, but I'm guessing you could use the covet's front suspension as a reference on how to model it (NOT the proportions)

Anyway, I had an idea: I think it'd be cool if it had fenders on the front wheels like this '33 Willy's. willys-in-red1.jpg

    Re: Update: Chassis/Frame and Suspension.

Hey man, cheers for the feedback. Yea if you have a look at the picture below, you'll see how the suspension is set up on the real thing, I've got most of the mounting points modeled on the chassis now, just need to actually make the suspension parts, like the coilovers etc.

Also, about putting holes in the body work to allow for the suspension to go through, I already have one on either side as you can see in the next picture, still haven't done the ones for the control arms though, will later today hopefuly.

And the idea of fenders, I had thought about doing them ages ago but never got around to it. Once I get the current model finished and game, I'll be doing other variants using the same base body. I will try and get fenders included as an optional part in the 'Ctrl+W' menu.
