Yeah they title says it :/ Since i was a child i ever wanted to drive a real car. I played racing games and played with model cars. And i ever wanted my own car... And there is the problem. I got my driving license last year when i turned 17. It was payed with the money i got from my Grandparents. So this year i´m turning 18 and i won´t get a car because it´s to expensive my parents said (they wont pay for it). The thing is im not finished with school and i´m thinking of working parallel to school and get some money to get my 1st car. Actually i am motorized, i have a 50ccm. But i dont like it that much as a car. When i would sell it i also wouldnt be able to get a proper car. I will also get some money to my birthday. Though it wont be that much i think. So what i want to know from you is how you got your first car, when do you got it and what tips and ideas do you have for me to get my 1st car? Thank you for your answers.
I'm planning on getting a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu as my first car. Our family tradition is when a car is finished being paid off, the other person's car is bought. In 2 or so years, when we're done paying it off, it's mine. That or I can scoop up a late 80's Nissan off of somewhere for about $1,000.
The Ranger was/is co-owned by me and my dad. I pay insurance and gas on it. I got the Grand Marq just by working my ass off over the summer. I saw it sitting at a Subi dealer about an hour away. Been there for a month. Body was rough so it was dirt cheap. The guy who hit me paid for the body work to be done so it's good now.
Lawl. You tell this story as if it's normal for kids to get a car from their parents. That shit is for rich people man. I bought my first car for 350 euros and it ran for nearly 4 years, then I sold it. Bought with my own money I had left over from my driving license money. Cars are way more fun when you've paid for them yourself. Makes you respect what they are and makes you take care of it properly. Also this thread should be in automotive -_-
Im 18 and have no car, dont have a license either. Parents wouldn't let me do driving lessons. They have said that once my exams are out of the way i might be able to, but to be honest i very much doubt its going to happen. Since i will probably be going to uni i wouldn't be able to afford a car anyway. Im thinking about taking my (pedal) bike to Uni since then i will be able to move around a bit without having to pay for public transport as often, but i have no idea what storage etc would be like so in the end i may not have that either. When i was a kid i wanted to be rally driver, but of course that isn't really a child friendly sport to participate in. I have also heard that it is a never ending money grabber of a hobby so that's also an issue. But i have a G25 and a pretty nice PC so i am lucky to be in a position where i can enjoy playing the simulators with a fairly nice setup. So in short i dont have a car and have no plans of getting one any time soon because life... (etc)
First car? Well my first car was the charger (Picture below) Obviously it wasn't drivable, So I got a Ranger, It well, Technically isn't mine. I rent it from my brother. (Picture below) And I recently brought a 2001 Holden Astra for $300 I and my uncle restored the charger, And we came to a conclusion that we should both own it 50/50, You know since we both restored it. Getting my permit soon. Already have a bit of money saved up and I'm saving almost everything I make. (Mostly mowing lawns but I hope to get a job this summer too.) Problem is I have to pay for drivers ed too.. (I think the minimum is $200 for classroom training but I could be wrong.) Then at the end of summer in ~October I'll get my restricted and then buy a car ASAP. There's a Volvo 240 wagon with a manual in front of a local auto body shop that I really want.

yeah but at least by the time you get your license you would have fixed the car up to your liking. Btw it is cleaning up pretty good considering what it looked like when you first got it. My first car was a 1986 toyota camry dlx that I got when my grandmother died. Im going to be honest, I loved that little car. It was just so much fun to zip around in. due to its small size it gave you a really false sense of speed too. Then we took it to a local shop to get a new timing belt. Since then it never drove the same. It began leaking a quart of oil a week and eventually blew the head gasket. By the time it got that bad it was too late to try to get our money back from the shop though. We sold it to a scrap yard for 350$. Then about 3 months later I picked up my grand marquis by saving up the money from work! cost me 1400$ before and after pics of the poor camry rip also that is my friend in pics not me.
I have a couple thousand stashed away. I hope to pick up an 06-10 P71 at an auction, fix it up, and hopefully have under 2500 in it. That'll be my daily driver/whip. If that goes to plan I'll still have a thousand or two to fling around on whatever, but I hope to keep my pockets padded by flipping police cars. I was gonna see if there were any decent ones at the June city auction, but they uploaded the pdf and there isn't a single police car in it. Slightly worrying, but most of the police department is still made up of crown vics so that's reassuring. If there aren't any in the August auction I'm gonna really start worrying.
Bought the A4 years and years ago for $8000, which was a bargain at the time. Daily-d it until I bought the Impreza a couple months ago for $200 (and another thousand to register, insure, and repair haha). The A4 is the weekend car now because it's much much nicer, and the oxygen sensors are fouled so it chugs petrol like mad.
I suppose its a good thing that your police department is fixing and recommissioning their crown vics rather than replacing them. They really are the all around best police car for toughness/reliability. I just know that the twin turbo Tauruses that most departments here are using now are gonna run into expensive issues down the line.
Yeah, they're holding onto their vics longer than most departments. Not sure if they're just driving them until the wheels fall off or what. I didn't get a chance to go to the last auction and check the mileages. The median year that they're auctioning right now is 08, so I'm hoping that I have a steady flow of police cars for the next few years. They seem to be replacing the Crown vics that they do sell off mostly with chargers, which is the least putrid of the police cars on the market right now imo.
My E46 M3 is actually my first car, and it's been great to maintain and own. The main issue I had was finding a car that myself and my father both liked. I didn't even consider looking at E46 M3's until the one I purchased came up on Craigslist with low mileage, and was just under our budget. I got in contact with the owner minutes after the ad went up on Craigslist, we got to look at it that day and ended up buying it. It's not perfect; it has a few rock chips, small dings, and a little road rash, but I absolutely love it. I can't see myself in anything other than what I ended up with.
My first car was free, a 1979 Chrysler (re-badged Mitsubishi) Sigma. 2 litre 4 cylinder. My parents gave it to me when they gave up on it, They could never get it started in the mornings without my dad having to spray "start you bastard" into the carb while my mum would pump the gas pedal turning the key. First morning I drove it I just put my foot flat to the floor turned the key and it started first time every time. That night they were pissed off that I could get it to start so easily, I had been telling them to do it that way for years. It wasn't worth spending any money on, in the end it lost 2nd gear in the auto trans, every window leaked, I had ripped out the carpet, and had to bash the rusty exhaust with a hammer to clear it out so it would stay running, had holes in the floor and I could only drive it with all the windows down otherwise I would suffocate from the fumes. Went to the wreckers still running. Second car I bought for $1,100 1990 Mazda 929 v6i 3.0 SOHC, it died when the timing belt went and needed a new engine. Had it for 3 years. Third car, within a week I bought a 1998 Ford Fairmont AU (ex-lease), listed at $7,500 talked them down to $4,500. Straight 6 4.0, fitted stiffer suspension darkest legal tint and 18 inch wheels I bought for $200 off a wrecked FTO. Lasted 5 years before every electric option died, all four window regulators died, all interior button back lighting failed, climate control died, transmission died, coils fried, control arm broke, brakes seized, I never really liked it because it squeaked and rattled and everything about it felt cheap, only thing I liked was the straight 6. While I still had the Ford, I bought another 929 1989 V6i this time a DOHC with sunroof, was in far better condition than the first one and was only $1,000 spent far too much money restoring it ( first thing I did was change the timing belt! ) Fitted stiffer suspension, engine tweaks, darkest legal tint, 7 inch touch screen head unit and a 1500 watt soundstream amp and twelve Alpine speakers, replaced the trans computer and still runs beautifully to this day ( my daily driver ) Then while I had the Ford and the 929, I bought my dream car from when I was a little kid. The 1981 Delorean DMC-12 was the first Houston factory complete rebuild to come up for sale, was done in 2005. Still looks drives and feels like brand new. cost $32,000 imported from the dealership in L.A. about 5 years ago. Still have it, probably never sell it. Lotus wishbone frame, stainless steel beauty. When you do go to buy your first car, don't buy from a used car dealer, they are all shysters, ALL of them. Buy from a private seller, but still get it inspected.
In Germany you're better off with getting one from a used car dealer because they have to give you 1 year of warranty that the car works.
Anything you end up doing...don't be one of those kids who is mad at their parents for not buying them stuff. You are lucky you got yor drivers licence payed off at 17...that thing is damn expensive in germany.
