My new computer arrived today. It's got 8GB of ram, a i7-4720HQ, and a GTX 980M. I was fairly confident the 980M would be able to handle the game on max settings, regardless of the map- I knew for a fact that the 970M could handle BeamNG just fine on most maps at maximum settings. I was a little bit surprised when my FPS consistently hovered around 35-40 FPS... It's using the 980M and is on the highest performance power profile. The FPS were at around 17-18 FPS until I screwed around with some settings in GeForce Control Panel. I'm fairly certain it's a GPU bottleneck, as pausing physics does almost nothing for FPS.

    Any ideas?

The graphics engine is terribly optimized - with a full-sized overclocked GTX 970 I get dips below 40 FPS on large maps, even with the settings on Normal. Additionally resolution plays a big role in FPS, and I'd imagine a fancy laptop like yours is probably above 1080p, so you're even worse off.

For the next update I hope the devs optimize Torque3D, maybe DX11?

The thing that bugs me is this:

In that video BeamNG is running at a stable 60 FPS, and that's with a 970M. I'm going to try running an earlier version to see if it's an inadvertent side-effect of the save-settings bug that was introduced in this update.

In the first seconds of the video, it says "Maxed Out 1080p/900p"

So, he's running sub-1080p, and like I said before, resolution plays a big role in the performance.

Whup, didn't notice that. Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately, it seems that lowering my resolution makes little to no difference.

My previous computer with a 755M got better FPS. Regardless of optimization it seems logical to think that a computer with a graphics card that is at least twice as powerful (if not more) would have at least some sort of a performance increase.

EDIT: running an older version didn't help. Some maps, such as Industrial Site, can barely crack 20 FPS. I must be missing something. It is probably worth mentioning that turning off dynamic reflections makes the FPS jump into the 30-40 FPS range on especially slow maps.

Well, all you can do is wait for better optimalization and for Dx 11 support. :(

Edit: Do you have the newest drivers for the GPU?

Game will not use 16gb of ram so that's a null points.
Semi won't Max your GPU. Of you lag on the semi, your CPU is likely insufficient. The semi had the most complex physics structure in game and will lag on many systems.
