But... But... XB Falcon... Aussie version of our own 5.8L Windsor V8 in that.

And all of Holden's LS engines are Aussie tuned for more HP and Torque.

welp, I detailed my car thoroughly and gave it a bath today, to prepare to meet the guy who wanted to trade for an 06 CVPI.

Well.. It looked a lot rougher than in the ad. Paint was chipping all over, and it was very dirty. And when the guy said it May need a catalytic converter, what he really meant was, "The 4.6 liter v8 is getting the equivalent exhaust flow as if it had a single 1 inch pipe." It was horribly clogged. the car was worth 1500 considering it was an 06, but I decided to keep my Grand Marquis instead because it is in much much better shape than that poor Vic.

I don't understand why people try to sell dirty cars. It lowers the value significantly.
If you don't wanna do it yourself you can just run it through a car wash at a gas station or something. Actually, I don't know. A wash with brushes may have knocked the rest of the paint off of the car. :p
Did you drive it or was the appearance alone enough to drive you off?

I would have suspected he drove it if the engine was choked off by the exhaust.

    Re: wimpy Aussie V8s.

I was thinking mainly of the Holden Torana with it 307ci V8, whereas the Camaro had an available 350 all the way up until 1982. Also available was a 396ci V8 and, after one of GM's many ridiculous diktats was rescinded, 427ci. Ford had the 390 and many big blocks, Dodge/Plymouth had the 383, the 440, and the Hemi. Pretty sure Australia didn't have big-block intermediates, and had smaller small-blocks as well.

Oh I drove it, it was sad. full throttle in it was equivalent of me easing into the gas from a stop on my old y piped grand marquis. It sounded sick too.

Poor 4.6. Any idea of what the 0-60 time would have been/is? Just curious.
But hey, a clogged cat would be a good excuse to put a nice exhaust system on it. Kinda high miles though.
    Any misfires or transmission oddities?

Cats are a wear item on a car.
They will eventually go bad. 180k miles is pretty long for a catalytic converter to last.

if it was just the cat that was messed up, I would have def bought it. However the interior was pretty bad, it was dirty, and peeling. Otherwise it seemed to run fine.

We certainly didn't have the displacement of the Americans, but displacement per litre is a whole different ball game ;)

It certainly didn't take us 8 litres to get a mere 140hp:p

    But 400hp and 550lbsft! (750nm). That's more like a diesel than a gas engine.

Even the lowest hp 8.0L was 190hp but still 360lbsft. (490nm).

My damn check engine light came back on last night. Stupid thermostat, doesn't it know I'm a busy man?

She also needs cleaned. I'll be doing that today.

We recently bought a former Ford Crown Victoria police interceptor. It runs well and we are going tornado hunting today.

Please deoxidize those headlights. It'd make the car look so much better.
I thnk I'd also take the bumper off and unbolt the rest of the pushbar structure so it doesn't poke through the bumper. Or just put a pushbar on it. Or do nothing about it. Up to you.
Id also put the spotlight back in.
Looks pretty nice, though. Paint looks like it's in good shape.

I will own one of these one day. Skip to 7:49.

That and a 52 Ford (stock Flathead) and maybe a Mustang II.

    Displacement per liter? Uh, durrr...

If you meant horsepower per liter, don't. Just... don't. It might sound impressive from an engineering standpoint, but on the dragstrip "at least this engine is efficient" isn't gonna cut it.

What engine are you talking about? The only 8-liter American engines I can think of are the 496 in some ~10 year old Chevy pickups and SUVs, and the Dodge Ram/Viper V10 (which even in cheaply made, low-tuned pickup truck spec made 300 HP). Both of those are much newer than what I'm talking about here.

Quiet conversation between a few people
*grumble grumble* volumetric efficiency *grumble grumble* horsepower per litre...

Shotgun Chuck crashes through a wall with an American flag billowing behind him, Bald Eagle perched on his shoulder, blasting Springsteen's Born in the USA.

Chuck draws in a large breath and bellows into the room
"NONE OF THAT MATTERS BECAUSE AMURRCA DID MORE CYLINDERS, NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT"

"Well, that was the best way to make more power for a carburetted engine, bu-"

Chuck pushes his sweaty red face into the face of the man who replied
"DID YOUR COUNTRY MAKE A 8-LITER V8 in the 1970s?"

"No, but contemporary Japanese car manufacturers made similar performing engines that were less than a quar-"

"THEN NO, THOSE PLASTIC FANTASTIC CHINESE TOYS AIN'T EVEN COUNTED AS CARS". Spittle flies from his lips.
    "AMURRCA WINS AGAIN"
Chuck roars victoriously as he straps a jetpack made entirely of automatic guns to his back. Taking a swig from an Obamacare IV bag filled with Bud Light, a ferocious, deafening typhoon of smoke, noise, and flashes of light erupts from the multihundred muzzles; the jetpack takes off at an exceedingly slow pace despite the number of guns, but carries just enough inertia to crash up through the roof. Chuck flies off into the distance with his eagle in tow. Born in the USA and gunfire can be heard faintly as he flies further away.
Everyone in the room, stunned, look down and realise Chuck tipped them a few dollars each (plus tax) for being good sports.
    End.

Sorry, I occasionally enjoy writing scripts.
