Dude, I live a few miles out of town. Its over 2 hours walk to work every morning (keeping in mind I start at 6am too and its a labour intensive 8 hour shift you dont want a 2 hour walk before). Pads have been ordered. Here saturday most likely. So will just have to take it easy until then. £25.
Do you work in manufacturing car stuff by chance? Is hitchhiking legal, or does a bus system run nearby? (I need a job, lol.)
Its a good 45 minutes to nearest bus stop and they do not run regularly as its a small village, like 3 times a day, 3 days a week. Nearest regular bus stop that would actually run anywhere near work, hour and a half. And I work for iForce (http://www.iforcegroup.com/). A warehousing company. We run a warehouse for this company: http://www.cathkidston.com/ Specifically I work the goods in department in a large warehouse used for retail and ecommerce. Nothing to do with car parts, although I did spend 2 weeks working for titan motorsport.
Reads like a good job. Same ugly bussing system in my county here, we are so small everywhere they only have shuttle busses, everything is essentially run as a taxi, yet we have zero cities. I miss home, places that will never be the same, and I cannot go back to (spiritually and sometimes hurtfully). Anyways, I should get to ripping the satellite radio antenna and wire from the Subaru. It is not functional and it is odd how such a tiny matchbook size roof block & wire under the carpet and through the molding bothers me.
Got my radio to work. The wire is disconnected from the window in the back, but there is also no power to the little antenna box thing, which is located behind the c pillar just above the seatbelt, so I knew there was a problem with the wire somewhere down the line. Started by buying a little set of prong things made specifically to pull out ford radios. You slide them into the holes on the front, push them until they click, and then just pull the radio right out. Upon removing the radio, I found that the antenna wasn't plugged into the back of the radio. Plugged it in and, viola, somewhat-decent reception. Sometimes crystal clear, but more often than not it's somewhat spotty. Next step is to buy some conductive epoxy and stick the wire back onto its place on the window. I bought a headlight restoration kit to get rid of the oxidation on the headlights, and a little $4 console at autozone. It's just 2 cup holders and 2 little storage bins. Satisfied with it so far. Also, if you ever buy a police car, expect a lot of strange, cold looks from people.
hehehe You forgot to register yours a vanity license registration. Good example is "notacop." or today "wontshoot."
No good news. :| Did a 0-60 and recorded 4/6ths of it. Sickeningly slow. Absolutely horrific. 10.8 seconds. I'm suspecting that it might have a clogged cat or two. I would hook up to the OBD port and check, but I'm 2 1/2 hours away from home. I also want to do it again with a windshield mounted timer thing to get a more exact number. CTjacob; I withdraw my remarks, you'd kick ass in a race. Also, it's developed a ~200 rpm surge at idle when it's in gear and the a/c is on. Goes from 600rpm down to 400 and back up. Cycle takes about 2 seconds and continuously repeats. You can hear a click right before the rpm goes up, but it quickly goes back down, then repeats etc. Doesn't do it in park or neutral though. I'm just hoping it doesn't get any worse because, like I said, I'm 2 1/2 hours away from home. Uploading partial 0-60 video now. I don't like being around cops in my car, because they look at me and judge me and it just bothers me.
You should be in the high 8's at least. My car is in the lower to mid 9's. My car does the same thing when the A/C is on. Although I swear its more around 850-750 not down to 400.
That's what I would think, but the fact that the engine idles fine with the ac off makes me think it's something else. It could be the extra load caused by the ac compressor coupled with bad cats that make it idle weird. It also idles too low, around 600 rpm in park. Should be closer to 800 or 900. I'll see what the deal is when I get home. The car is sitting outside during a strong storm right now. I guess this is when I'll figure out if there are any leaks. Please no hail.
My grand marquis has a surge in idle as well sometimes. It is very rare though. Only happens once a week or so, but itll surgeto about 1000 -1100 rpms and back every 6 seconds or so. hasnt done it lately at all though
Does it make a difference whether or not the ac is on? Mine idles fine, albeit a little low, without the ac on. Cats are a pretty expensive job, so I won't put new ones in unless I know for sure that they're the problem. I won't be able to put a new fuel filter in until Im home, where I'll also be able to hook a computer up to the OBD port, so I'll probably do a little but of investigation before I start throwing parts at it. 0-60 video is only to 40mph because I accidentally tapped the record button with my thumb. Link because I can't imbed videos on this damn iPad.
Yeah because the clutch on the compressor engages and disengages. Mine clicks on and off every 10-15 seconds or so. (I think... Haven't used A/C for a while) She sounds healthy otherwise. Amazing how much induction noise it has compared to my intake from the 03 P-71. Shit, Judging by the videos you have of the auction Vics on your Youtube they all seem to be decent. Not great but not bad. Maybe I should get a second panther to beat on.
They're all in pretty good mechanical condition, but they aren't very pretty. The problems you run into will be mostly wiring problems. Be prepared to wrestle with lots of interior trim if you want to make mostly everything on the interior work. I noticed today that, when I turn the lights on, the backlight on the clock on the radio goes off and the odometer dims. I'm not even gonna bother trying to fix that. The transmission shifts well, which is what I was most worried about. The only quirk I've really noticed is that it takes it a little while to kick down at WOT. A second or two. Doesn't really bother me though. Also, I love the almost whistle-like high pitched sound at low throttle and low rpm that comes from the intake.
My Digidash does some spooky dimming every so often but I think it's light sensitive so I don't think it's an issue. I think the whistle is the heavy duty alternator. Only P-71's do it. Look at this list from an auction coming up this weekend in my state http://images.auctionsinternational.com/auctions/live-auctions/2015/6-26_ayer/inventory.php
Damn. That's a lot of crown vics. I bet they'll go for cheap, being such a huge group. Every single one of them has side airbags, too. Just complicates things if you want a beater.
Is a decat an option in your state? Much cheaper than cat replacement. As for erratic idle with ac on. Have a quick look at the ac compressor clutch. Check it's staying engaged. You can visibly see it click in and out on most cars. Probably not the issue, but easy to check at least.
