thank you for your words I guess there are a few other guys with my thoughts and most of my words were coming from my dad, and there are a lot of old subarus in wreckers yards in New Zealand but I guess its mainly ones that were owned by people that ave never puled a dipstick but I guess if it was bad Toyota wouldn't of taken on the project. im only a 15 year old teenager dreaming of being a mechanic. but I do have some knowledge on cars from playing Car mechanic Simulator and some words from my dad. oh I forgot to ask is it N/A
The FA20-D is, although they have been turbocharged on the aftermarket. Subaru also use the FA20-F in the Legacy, this variant ditches toyotas D4-S injection system (which was used with full cooperation with toyota for the FA20-D) for subarus own plain direct injection and adds a twin scroll turbo. The compression ratio is also lowered as is common for turbo cars (10.6:1 for the F versus 12.5:1 for the D). Its my guess that the F likely has a different head design to remove the toyota port injectors and decrease compression in 1 fell swoop. Unless the port injectors are in the manifold on toyota models rather than the head, in which case it would make more sense for subarus turbo model to switch pistons. I dont know enough to say which approach is used but it would also be a problem for aftermarket converters.
I like where you are heading with that but wrong thread: http://www.beamng.com/threads/79-Vehicle-suggestions
Do any of you guys have any recommendations for engine hoists and stands? Looking for something on the cheaper side for derby engines.
i havent heard of it but ill look into for sure. But yeah my headlights arent bad, persay, but they are noticably dimmer than my two friends cars, which is a 95 eclipse and an 89 chrysler 5th avenue.
You might want to look into de-hazing your headlights if they're hazed, because it can have a pretty large effect on light output. Your limitation may just be the factory headlight wiring though. I picked up some ATF and topped my transmission off today. Accidentally overfilled it but quite a bit, but whatever. I also got gas. After a full tank of conservative, albeit suburban driving, I averaged 12 mpg. 12 Heh, crown vic for ya. 3.55 rear axle ratio doesn't help much either.
You know someones 'mad custom' is bad when you see a photo of the same model that you drive and say "Fuck that's awful". Introducing some Bogan's Commodore off roader. Its a Holden VT Commodore Wagon on a Toyota Land Cruiser chassis. (Plus a VY with Chevy badge) Also this rice cake
I have yet to see a Miata owner that isn't a really great person to be around. I got to cruise around with a complete stranger in a NB Miata down Lime Creek last night, it was a lot of fun. Sorry for the grainy quality from my dashcam, I wish I had brought my GoPro along with me that night.
Never ask a mid-age Kiwi for mechanical advice, all you'll get is "Subaru breaks down too much". They have this mentality from the 80s when they really were quite crap, however nowadays they're ahead in reliability and safety. psst, my dad has the same mentality and completely hates Subaru, even knowing they're some of the most reliable vehicles we've owned. We've had 4+ WRXs in the family, some with over 200,000kms on them. The reason you don't see any with high miles it literally because they put out so much power for a small engine, and they're usually owned by careless owners that just want to thrash them.. However the only Subaru in the family now is a 2005 GT-B Legacy Wagon, it's a 2L manual turbo with 180,000kms and it's amazingly smooth and quick. It'll be interesting to see how the BRZ/86 handles high mileage, they're strong engines and aren't under a lot of strain seeing as they're not turbo. ----------- Anyways, today we installed some springs on my mates Miata, was a 3cm drop iirc. (imported from here) As for mine, I went out and found a Miata getting parted out, managed to buy some interior bits and fix mine up, it's a whole lot tidier now. Also completely fixed the overheating problem now, can live on redline and not even go over half. Miata is the answer to life..(Not 42)
Probably something as stupid/simple as: VTEC = Honda = popular Japanese manufacturer, therefore it must = ricer. Of course, the people with this mentality have no idea what the NSX, S2000, S800, etc are, and only care about ragging on Civics.
Is it? I know DOHC VTEC changes the intake and exhaust cam profiles to a more aggressive one after a certain RPM, where VVT only advances and retards intake cam so is something completely different. Pretty sure CVTC is something similar to that. Care to educate?
