My windows 10 is only using 2.2GB of ram with two chrome tabs open. Check in the task manager what exactly is eating the RAM. Chrome is a very RAM hungry browser.
No, it IS a very RAM hungry browser full stop. Compared to the new edge browser which consumes very little RAM compared. I'm unsure about the 32bit chrome thing though, I have only ever had 64bit. Edit: Oops, completely forgot all the extra add-ons i have in chrome (compared to edge which has exactly nil). I'm still unsure about RAM usage between the two, but my results are false due to the add-ons. My bad, sorry.
It's not Chrome, I'm running 64 bit. The problem is Windows itself. The process labeled System is using 670ish MB of RAM. That's a lot with only having 4GB.
I'm using up 2.7GB with a few tabs of Chrome and Steam open. It falls down close to 2GB when just sitting at the desktop. I do think it uses a small bit more than Win 8 did, but I forget and it's not enough for me to care anyway.
My tablet has 2gb of RAM. I have task manager open (ofc) as well as the steam friends list and FireFox with 4 tabs (3 these forums, one gmail) and it is using 1.3gb of RAM with 625mb of ram available. Top 4 ram users: Firefox = 191mb of ram system = 145mb of ram antimalware service exe... = 45mb of ram hangouts plugin = 18mb of ram Windows is obviously hiding crap from me and not giving the full picture :/ Although resource monitor seems to give the real details. Windows seems to have became way more shady with Window 10. For example it is running things like the Xbox app in the backgroud despite the fact that i have never launched it. I am certain that i have told it not to do that yet it is set to being allowed to do that. Other issues i have had are where i have turned off certain settings many times (like the dont show ads on the lock screen one) and it keeps turning them back on again. I think the last system update may have fixed that but who knows. Its really dodgy especially with the requiring people to change their network ssid's in order to prevent their wifi passwords from possibly being uploaded to facebook if someone else connects to your wifi.
Hm, if Win10 isn't supposed to be using this much RAM, why is it then? The most I've done since I upgraded is just run Chrome and Spotify really, don't know how it uses 3.2GB RAM just doing that. ugh. Now it's using 275MB, still quite high. What's wrong? I really don't want to reinstall, considering I've made my setup quite customized over the past 364 days. Tomorrow's the day my laptop turns 1.
223MB of ram for my system chrome is using 804MB of ram with 3 tabs of beamng forums open (this posting page, General discussion, and general computer discussion) and of course the about memory page to view the total amount of ram being used 2.9GB of 7.9GB usable according to task manager
I've got 2 chrome windows open (on both screens), both have 2 tabs open, steam, skype, task manager & teamspeak and its using 4.1gb out of my 15.9gb, +there are background stuff going on, but when I first got this computer, I could get under 10% ram usage if I tried really hard, now I'm always using over 3gb, Windows 10 seems to be using more than 8.1 did, I'm sure its just a bug that'll be squashed soon.
Re: Who's upgrading to Winodws 10 on day one? My local one is running windows 7, but they are useless fuckwits that wont activate my 4g and say I have to ring up the customer service number where I get stuck on hold for ages before being told I have to do it in store. Wankers.
I updated to Windows 10 yesterday, my PC just keeps restarting without warning, no BSoD or anything.. Just flicks off and back on again, extremely annoying. Update: Windows 10 is kill, I reverted back to 8.1(It literally took 2 minutes and I lost NOTHING)
Try again, but fresh install all of the windows 10 files in case some got corrupted. I must have installed Win10 about 5 times trying to get the bastard thing to work (it works now and I'm not sure if it was worth all the effort... but it's a nice change ). Oh, if it persists after a installing again you could always go into safe mode and see if the problem persists there (that would indicate something wrong with the main installation of windows as opposed to drivers that get downloaded in background).
I upgraded from a pretty much bone stock 8.1 anyways The problem was my O/C, it didn't like it at all.. I'll wait a good month before upgrading so I don't have to deal with so much bugs, I do like the operating system though.
Just booted my laptop up this morning, and it said, "critical error, start menu and cortana couldn't load, please sign out." I couldn't even use the computer like that, I had to sign out. I restarted it twice, took a trip to the System Recovery menu, and now it works without doing anything. Let's hope Microsoft can squash some bugs. This morning my system is using 23.5 MB. Why was it using 67x last night?
well, im screwed. I have windows 10, but i couldnt upgrade from windows 8. why you ask? because my SSD that windows 8 is on is failing(its a crappy lite on brand) so now im stuck with an ungregistered version of windows 10
I forced the update again a few days ago and it worked flawlessly to my surprise. I've had a few days to play around with it and honestly I kinda love it. I haven't had any bugs (hopefully I didn't just jinx myself), everything runs quick and smooth, I like the layout of everything, it looks nice in my opinion (I'm not usually one for the minimalistic style, I like shiny fancy UI's, but this is nicely done). I thought the app store was going to just a gimmick that I'd never use but I seem to find myself regularly browsing it and trying new apps, which is funny because I don't even play around with apps and stuff like that on my phone. The Edge browser is nice, really quick for me and a big improvement over IE (I've always been an IE person, I've never liked Chrome for anything other than youtube, and I don't like Firefox or Safari... I know, I'm terrible.). If I had to pick anything that I'm not a fan of it'd really only be the music player is pretty basic. Also, getting to some familiar folders and settings takes a little getting use to but for the most part I think I know where everything is now. OH wait, something I'm not crazy about is having a Microsoft account tied to so much stuff. I had windows 7, I didn't use a password to log on. Now if I want to use Cortana (which is pretty nifty btw) or the XBOX app I have to use my Microsoft account to log onto the PC, which makes it so I also have to put in a password or pin whenever I turn my PC on, although you can use a normal local account like you've always done and just not use Cortana or the app stuff if you don't want to be bothered with all of that. I think Windows 8 had this as well though? I don't know because I've never used 8. Anyways, it isn't a terrible inconvenience or anything, I'm just not used to it. Also Has shut down been replaced with hibernation or something? if you turn off the PC, when you turn it back on it says something about it coming out of hibernation which is weird... So I'm wondering if it isn't completely off off, and that's the reason it feels like it starts up quicker? I remember PCs having a Hibernation option way back when but cant remember what it did. I dunno, I'm still figuring some stuff out, but the more time I spend with it, the more I like it. With most new things it just takes some getting used to.
This was a feature introduced in 8.0. Rather than shutting down. The PC does actually perform a shutdown, then reboots to login prompt, then goes to hibernate. This is fine of course as in hibernate the PC is effectively powered off, but a recovery from hibernation to the login prompt is faster than a cold boot to login, hence why they did it.
