I'd like to see this. This is one of my favorite trucks in GTA V. Also, I love the DeClasse Rancher XL too. Or the Bobcat.
what do you mean ? any sketchup guys here like Bakasan that can help me, sometimes online tutorials can be quite dodgy.
Your time would be best put into learning blender. While making a few boxes is easiest in sketchup, sketchup really really does not prove conductive to a good polyflow for videogame modelling. You have to absolutely master it as bakasan has to get anywhere videogame wise.
the main reason im not using blender for modeling is that it is hard to get used to. To me me Sketchup is like getting into a car and being told to drive the controls are easy to understand while blender is like hopping into a passenger aircraft and being told to fly I am sticking to Sketchup because it is easy enough to understand and that is final I may as well not learn since you guys are being unhelpful and simply saying "you are using the wrong program use blender" have a look at Bakasans ae86 it is possible to make good models using Sketchup. rant over.
Bakasan has mastered sketchup. We're talking hundreds of hours of practice and knowledge on polyflow. It is genuinely a better usage of time to get used to blender.
But when it comes to making detailed cars, Sketchup is the more complex one. It's brilliant for simple, hard-edged shapes, but when it comes to anything with curvature it becomes difficult. Also, using the passenger aircraft analogy, there's nothing stopping you from playing a flight simulator beforehand for practice. And by that I mean use tutorials and make bad cars at first for practice. You'll almost definitely end up with bad models, but you learn for the next time around and you know what you did wrong.
Blender may be more difficult to learn. But once you learn it you will realize that there is a reason for why everything is as it is. Do yourself a favor and learn blender. Using blender will also make putting your vehicles in game far easier because it structures your models in the standard format that BeamNG uses.
I think it's a little unfair to say that we're being unhelpful as we're only trying to save you time. Like 6677 said, it would take considerably longer to master Sketchup than Blender so the time you spend would be better put towards learning Blender.
This. All of my this. Just because Sketchup is easy to use initially, it lacks a lot of things that modeling in a proper program have by default. Being able to model anything decent in sketchup takes about twice the time as something modeled by a person who is comfortable in a better program. If you're just starting out, then don't waste your time with sketchup, and go for blender. Skp Blender As someone who has used sketchup for, way too many years, I still can't say I've mastered it, nor will I ever probably. It takes a lot longer to master Sketchup than to jump first into Blender, but the longer you wait until you transfer over, the harder it becomes.
As I look at it now its not as hard now. I am going to watch some more tutorials I guess I have to stop making unfounded claims. I am going to move to blender the interface is hard to get used to but modeling isn't as hard as it looks. Like anything it takes time. I guess you guys were like me at one point. - - - Updated - - - I apologise for calling you guys unhelpfull I was stressed at the time I will reply back when I have more progress on the model. 3D modeling is hard to get your head around at first it is true that anyone can do 3d modeling.
Can anyone suggest me a really good video tutorial for how to model a car in blender? Haven't had much luck finding a good tutorial.
It's generally not a good idea to model a car as your first model in blender. Get to know the program first, all the keystrokes and techniques, by modelling basic objects. Then, when you have some experience, move on to more complicated things like cars. I believe this tutorial is quite suitable for a start - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y__uzGKmxt8 Have a look at these tutorials, they seem to cover quite a lot - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97kHFPNs6jw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDT3QvIe6BI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_hbrubAB_o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6bM3byMFh0
ANy modelling software you pick up, a car is *not* a good first project. A teapot, wineglass or similar tend to be more common. You just want a generic blender tutorial. Get to grips with it. Then cars.
I made this a while back, i never followed it up with anything and i cringe whenever i watch it but i think it is a reasonable first look at blender. Its aim is to help you understand how the user interface works. Since it is short it only shows the very basics. My first model in blender was a house. It was fairly basic at first and as i learned more i tacked more new bits onto it from things i learned.
thank you for the tutorials. post them in the content creation thread for anyone else who might need them.
