I know this question has been thrown up AOLT over the past years. Multiplayer.... "Is there going to be Multiplayer?" My main questions are atm is that i heard roomers that you guys were going to think about adding multiplayer after the game got released on steam, its been about.. 2 months? 3 months? since its been released and we haven't heard anything. So can we get a confirmation weather multiplayer will be added?

I am pretty sure that BNG devs will release it. They have a loong list of things to do, and on top of that list now are ropables and hooks (AFAIK) + finishing Hirochi SBR4. Don't worry, MP will come, I am sure about that.

What "roomers" told you that? i really want to know because i havent heard ANYTHING about them adding or even working on multiplayer, they are still trying to figure out even how to do it and havent gotten any luck, computers and servers just are not powerful enough for that stuff, there would be input lag like no other and cars might even clip though eachother.

Something simple like splitscreen with a couple controllers or even different keymaps on the keyboard i could see possible though.

Multiplayer is a terrible idea. I never found it to be useful in any game.

That's your opinion, although in a poll the vast majority of the community (including myself) wanted multiplayer. Plus I don't think it's that hard to implement, it's just that you're looking at it wrong. You don't need to send every node and every beam over the internet, just basic positional co-ordinates for the car. That's what every other game users.

Additionally it would attract a lot more people to the game and offer a large selling point.

So, I strongly support the addition of multiplayer, no matter how basic it is, driving with friends in your custom car is fun regardless of any lack of collision.

500.000 viewers of the League of Legends finals livestream might disagree. lol

But yea, MP will come. Only a matter of time.

I'm pretty sure sound is. Every where I look on this site, someone wants better sounds. Go on facebook, the most liked reply to BeamNG's latest post is someone asking for better sounds.

I dunno, but I just want an answer for either of these features. Can we ever expect MP, are you working on sounds, etc?

Yes, sounds and multiplayer are important, though, being that multiplayer will probably take quite some time, sounds would be a great addition!

As for multiplayer, I'd love to see even just a LAN mode put to work in the future. Sure would be nice to race/drive/derby with a few friends and some bots!

Definitely this... I don't care if it's slipshod or really technical or whatever, just get multiple people (even if it's just 2!) controlling vehicles on one map - that would be satisfying. It's great that BNG has some pretty detailed maps and vehicles now, but it still just gets kinda boring doing it all by yourself. OR at least get the AI control more interesting. Just something so that you're not always the only vehicle for miles around. That would be such a nice change.

But how hard would it be for them to implement a sort of local multiplayer that assigns each different input you have plugged into your computer as the controls for each vehicle. So the first one would be whatever input device is first used, second vehicle is the second device to be used, etc, etc. Or it could just be even simpler where the keyboard is 1, controller 1 is 2, etc. They wouldn't even need to do any kind of split screen just let multiple people control the vehicles on screen instead of each input controlling the active vehicle.

I know I've posted this in every new MP thread but I really think this should be the first step in the way of adding multiplayer. From my understanding (very very little) this shouldn't be that difficult to implement and shouldn't tax the PC anymore than each vehicle would normally tax the PC. The devs would just have to create something to separate the inputs to different vehicles.

i would love MP as well the game engine will make for awesome demolition derby's .
One issue will be mods .. if all players did not have the same mods then they would fail to be seen or glitch out ...
So all the mods would need to be installed on to the server . then either Dl by people who are joining or Cashed in to the ram of players Joining . ( kind of like Garrys mod)

I like the local multiplayer, or LAN ideas.
But i seriously don't like about the Online Multiplayer.

    Why?
    - It's gonna effect to the performance that's make it laggy, like ROR i guess?
    - Cost a lot of Data Services. (for a person who has limited ones)
    - Everyone will crash to another car when playing MP (Not everyone actually, just children)

Meh, this is my opinions. Reply me if you had any thoughts, not like : " OMG GET AWAY U SCRUB "

    EDIT : Bump, sorry.

Minus the fact that all network data between 2 computers these days is either UDP or TCP with realtime videogames generally preferring UDP. UDP does not distinguish between LAN and Online, as far as its concerned, give it an IP address, it will go, done, dusted. The only real difference between online and LAN from a code perspective is how available games are detected, which is generally fairly easy on a LAN and not so easy online, but if the game simply had a raw IP address input, it wouldnt matter whether that IP address is your brothers PC upstairs or mine across the globe. So by having LAN, you pretty much have online and vice versa, at least under the hood.

I see, but at least it doesn't cost a lot of data services when using a LAN, right? :v

Technically you dont even need a data plan to use LAN, so no.

I've taken an old wireless router before, plugged a few PCs into it but not bothered plugging in the cable for internet access, its still a LAN, we were still able to play quake 3 on it, but with no internet connection, no data costs ;)
