Hey, I'm having a problem with the map loading... Whenever I click it to use it, the game crashes. Does anybody have a working version of the map they can post?
The zip posted on this thread works fine for me. I'm going to say the same thing again. -Turn your Texture Quality setting in Options to Normal or High. (You might need to change the Overall Quality to Custom first)
Sorry for the question, but how did your terrain become so huge with square size only set to "5". I'm trying to create huge maps with heightmaps, but my terrains are very glitchy and not very detailed. I must set the height to 10000 and more, to get mountains. I really enjoy your map!
I'm not completely sure, but I think it is because of the giant difference in color on the heightmap. He has a lot of very dark spots and a lot of very bright spots. Not 100% sure though
Glad you are enjoying it Terrain size depends on 2 things: the "squareSize" variable, and the resolution of the heighmap image file. A 4096*4096 heighmap will produce a terrain much bigger than a 1024*1024 one (given the same squareSize). So I think that the key thing you are missing here is the heighmap resolution, which is what will allow you to have large and/or detailed terrains. In this map I'm using a 4096*4096 heightmap (which is the largest you can go in Torque3d afaik) and a squareSize of 5 as you said, so I'm essentially making a terrain that's (4096 * 5 =20480) 20480 * 20480 meters. Also, you seem to be maybe mixing things up, terrain size is different and independent from the actual mountains height. Mountains height depends on 'MaxHeight' and your actual grey-scale values in the heighmap. Pure black being 0m, and pure white being your 'MaxHeight', and everything in between is scaled accordingly. So, try to make use of the full grey-scale range with whatever program you are using, as this will give you a better "vertical" resolution (try to have strong whites and strong blacks as bigcrazycarboy said). If your terrain is supposed to have mountains, you should have some "strong" whites on your heightmap image. If your heighmap image is only full of black and dark grey areas, you are not optimizing it to be used for mountains, you need to have close to white areas. I'm not really an expert on this subject, there's better people out there for that , but I can try helping you on whatever you need. I know all this heightmap stuff can be a mess , but I also know that this very strongly depends on what program you are using, as each program can be entirely different from the others, so this looks more like software specific tutorial task that you might need. Good luck .
My game crashes when I load this map. I installed the map the way you told everyone to install it, but it still crashes my game and the crash report keeps coming up. Please help me and or walk me through installation.
