    GUIDELINES >> Modding_Guidelines

As you may have seen, our new forum has a new page called 'MODS'.
    XLLccpD.jpg
In this short guide you will learn how to correctly upload your very own mod to that page, and the things you should know about it.

    What is the 'MODS' page?
The 'MODS' page works like a repository. You can upload your very own mod in there, and the users will be able to find new mods easier.
    • Mods make use of TAGS, which helps to categorize them correctly.
    • Mods are approved from our staff before going public there, that to ensure quality and avoid broken stuff.
    • Mod's author can easily update their mods.
    • Users can easily review (those are also moderated from us) and ask help on mods.
    • Users can 'follow' a mod and get notified when it gets updated.

How to correctly upload your mod to the 'MODS' page

While being logged on, simply head to the 'MODS' page and click the 'Add Resource' button.
    yjIR4Wt.jpg

You will get prompted to choose the correct category for your mod. After that, press 'Continue...'
    YP1F3mU.jpg

Next you will see the page where you can setup the Mod Title, Description, Version, Tagline and upload your mod.
    i0oauNd.jpg

To upload your mod simply click this button and choose the ZIP. Make sure your mod works by simply placing the ZIP in the 'mods' folder without requiring any extra steps.
    dchcZ71.jpg

The second half of that page will let you setup the Tags, Link to Support Thread, etc.
Keep the URL boxes empty for now.
Put the tick on the 'Upload Resource Icon'
    5.jpg
    When done, simply press 'SAVE'.

On the next screen, you will be prompted to upload a thumbnail for your mods (That if you ticked the box in the previous page)
    oCvIbdv.jpg
The thumbnail must be sized 96x96. Please upload one, it will make it easier for user browsing for mods to get a clearer idea of your mod.

If you already have an existing thread for your mod, simply add the link in your mod description, and when we will review your mod, we will take care of assigning your mod to the thread specified.

Last step is waiting. The repository moderation will take care of checking your mods and that it works fine. If everything is good, the mod will be approved in next hours/days. If something is wrong, they will send a private message.

Added guidelines for mod approval at the very top.

So how does the quality control work? i'm just wondering because I might be thinking of uploading my map when I have done enough to release a beta.

We just make sure the mod works fine without any issue/error and that is doesn't break stuff. And that is also packed correctly.
Then the actual quality is up to the author.
Surely a mod that is visibly made with no effort won't have much luck.

This is great however I am still getting an error uploading Baja Hills. I've done everything
correctly multiple times! Does the actual zip construction or file location on my machine
    make a difference? Thanks!

If you need you can select "Link to an external file" and use the attachment in your thread as the external link. Is this the same "Unspecified error"?

Yes sir, the same "unspecified error". Happens at the same point in the upload every time (about 1/3 uploaded).
I will check out your suggestion.

EDIT:My computer illiteracy is showing in spades here, I do not understand how to do the URL
thing to a file on my PC. Where does that get entered anyway? Additional info URL?,
    additional support URL?

I believe that was removed. Using attachments within the forum will result in faster download speeds.
How big is your ZIP file?
    Does it contain weird characters?
    Tried re-zipping it?

Zip is 331 MB. I have done nothing with the file since I posted the release. I haven't tried
re-zipping or changing the file location (currently resides on my desktop), those steps are next.

Go to your preferences and disable the Flash-based uploader.

Thanks Scepheo but now it just gets stuck at eternal download. I may need to update my flash player or something.

Uploading without a progress bar always seems terribly slow. If you're using Chrome, progress should be displayed in a tiny black box in the bottom left or right corner, not sure about other browsers. And updating Flash won't help, from what I could gather it's a problem with the forum software. If you're really not getting any progress at all, try opening the developer tools (F12 for most browsers) and seeing if any errors are reported.

Okay, for third time in the two years I've been on this site, I'm being repeatedly asked to log in to do something while logged in. I try to upload my resource, I'm asked to login. I login, I'm asked to login. And so on. I understand you guys are busy, but this or something like it has been happening for nearly a year, and I need answers. Is my account blacklisted or something? Do I need to sign in through Steam?

Disabling the flash download option helped activate a couple of things for the creation process that weren't there before. The download progress
bar was in the upper right corner and was indicating a download. I left it undisturbed for over an hour before I had to go to work. I am still on win 8.1
and Explorer. The file zip size is 331 MB. well below the indicated 483MB limit I saw.

"The mod MUST work without the need of extracting the ZIP or any additional step. Simply by dragging and dropping the ZIP in the 'Mods' folder."

How do I do that with skins? Did some trial and error, and I still can't get it to work. I'm editing a skin in the common.zip vehicle.

I've uploaded my map but I accidentally put it in "Land" under vehicles instead of "Terrains, Levels, Maps" but can't change it can you?

So the download button is on the top of the page now, so how can some stupid people see the copyright, the author list and the way to install the MOD. There is a BeamNG Fan forum in China, some new people to the forum just keep asking asking askinng and asking how to install a MOD, they also reupload some MODs that shouldn't be reupload(I have try to stop them and they don't understand why), and they don't know who made the MOD, who made the game and even thought BeamNG was made in Russia.
So maybe devs can highlight some important information in the new "MOD" section, that will be more easy to everyone.
