So we have a thread about dreams, how about a thread for really weird stuff, more commonly referred to as the "Paranormal".

Rules for this thread ideally would be no judgements, not making fun of one another, if you feel clever and want to post a meme you think is funny, go stick it where the sun don't shine.

This is not a thread for discussing religion. I've seen some sh-t that would turn you white, yet I still don't believe in the traditionally espoused thoughts of heaven and hell or beliefs surrounding it, you have your beliefs and I have mine, so leave your theories at the door and just share your experiences. You may not have any but I am damn sure a family member or someone you know has a story that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck and that's basically all I'm talking about here.

    Here's one of mine,

I'll start with a more notable event that happened when I was about twelve, I went to tour an old WW2 army base called Fort Nepean on the tip of the Mornington peninsula in Victoria, Australia. It had been used as a defense post for ships entering the bay. (for history buffs it's where the very first shot of WW2 was fired from). It had also been used as an artillery firing range and Quarantine hospital with a cemetery. Towards the tip of the peninsula part of the base consisted of underground tunnels, it was quite hot that day about 33 c / 91 f. I was with my dad and brother, we had all just come out of the tunnels and they both wanted to see this very large cannon out in the sunshine. I knew it was cool in the tunnels so I declined and stayed out of the heat, I was about 200 yards into the tunnel which had halls leading off to lookout posts or gunnery positions about every 50 feet. I was standing right at the entrance to one of the halls to my left and could see my dad and brother off in the distance outside at the end of the tunnel, I was walking along when I stopped without wanting to and slowly started turning my head to look down the hall, I did not decide to do these actions, it was all happening against my will.

I looked down the hallway to the lookout post and that's when I saw him, at first I thought he was a war enthusiast dressed in an olive colored uniform complete with hat, long sleeve shirt and a brown belt. That's when I noticed the rest of him faded away into nothing, just faded from the waist down, he was standing there but didn't have any legs. He was leaning forward resting both hands on the ledge of the lookout with his shoulders hunched, he was facing away from me looking out into the bay, I still wasn't exactly sure what or who I was looking at, even at this stage I didn't think he was a ghost. I was transfixed, a thousand thoughts raced through my mind at once, and that's when he very slowly turned around and looked straight into my eyes, straight into my thoughts. His eyes were piercing and his expression was blank, I could remember his face for years afterward. He stared at me for what seemed like an eternity and then from out of nowhere I was instantly struck with immense fear. I felt a sharp crack of something like electricity and I just turned and ran towards the light at the end of the tunnel (I know how that sounds, but I was in an actual tunnel at the time). I only stopped running when I hit the sunlight and there was my dad taking a picture of my brother straddling a large cannon, my dad casually noticed me and said "hey, you're white as a bed sheet, you see a ghost or something" and he chuckled. I didn't respond further than a muffled nervous barely audible choke. That happened when I was 12, I told my mother because she had experiences of her own when growing up, but I never told my dad until I was 25.

I should have looked at some old photos at the tourist center for the base but I was too scared that I might actually recognize the guy I just saw and that would seal it for me. Didn't have time anyway because my dad had gotten side tracked and want to get home fast when we were leaving so he could buy beer before the shops shut and get us boys home for dinner on time.

I had up to that point only small things happen but as I got older and the floodgates opened I was aware that I had repressed other similar experiences. They were mostly at night and out of fear I must have told myself or had others insist I had been dreaming, but the tunnel was different, this was daytime, I saw his face and he saw mine.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You can take that at face value, regard it as an urban myth, or just think it's a "cool story bro". That's entirely up to you, just don't give me sh-t about it, I don't really care about "internet cred" even if that's the most important aspect of your life, so be it, that's your thing not mine, funny looking back at things you have and when you have nothing to lose how pointless just about everything is. So tell me a cool story, doesn't have to be your own, just has to be filed under "paranormal", and not just the story line from poltergeist or some stupid vampire movie.

Hmm, must be something about tunnels.

I was 7, and going (for the first time) into the Dover Castle WW2 tunnels (the tour has things like the lights going out to bomb sound effects). At the end of the tour, there is a tall spiral staircase, leading to the exit. Just as I was about to go up, something odd happened. The lights went out, there was a rumble, and I felt a strong breeze hit my back, which was odd, because to protect the tunnels, all doors are kept closed, and it is kept very hot and dry. I was a bit concerned, but I thought it was just another group entering the tunnels, so I started to dash up the staircase to catch up with my parents and the rest of the group. That is when I saw it, a ghostly figure, which looked like a wartime nurse, just standing there, face obscured by a gas mask. It looked at me, and then just vanished. I ran up the stairs, highly panicked, and ran to the rest of the group, shouting what I had just seen. The tour guide dismissed it as one of the projections they used, but this 'ghost' was free-standing, impossible to be a projection. To this day, it confuses me, and this is probably the reason why I have never been on a spiral staircase since, without having a panic attack.

I agree this is neither the thread nor the forum to discuss religion, but you do realize that you're breaking your own rule within the same line in which you established it? Anyway, this is a pretty appropriate thread for the time, with Halloween around the corner and all.

I don't have many experiences to share; I've had a pretty normal life at best, boring at worst. It may not count since I wasn't present for it, but there were some mysticism surrounding the passing of one of my grandmothers. In her final days, she insisted that there was a man dressed in dark clothing inside her room. Day by day, the man began to move closer and closer to her bed. She died shortly after the man had theoretically arrived at her bedside, and she died screaming. A few days later, some family members of mine were cleaning out her house. Still grieving, my great aunt verbally wished that my grandmother could give them a sure sign that she was alright. No sooner did that phrase end, than a wayward shoebox flew off of a nearby shelf and hit her in the head. Not fell; it wasn't hanging precariously off the edge of the shelf on a stack of three other shoeboxes, no. Just a single shoebox that moments prior had been sitting firmly on the perfectly flat, amply spacious shelf. At least three witnesses from two different generations.

That's pretty damn cool, the gas mask makes it even more creepy. I understand about your apprehension of spiral staircases, similar to my fear of old tunnels that I had for a while.

Was it completely turned off or in sleep mode?, I've had my PC sputter back to life from sleep mode a few times when I was nowhere near it. Then again I have also had different kinds of weird stuff happen with electrical appliances from time to time, no real reason for me to doubt you.

Well technically I only offered my personal point of view, pretty hard for one person to discuss anything in the first post as discussion usually requires a second party. If I offended you with what I wrote in regards to my personal lack of belief towards religion, I apologize and will amend the initial post. Thank you also for not turning that specific subject into a discussion. ( had to edit again, quite tricky to word any personal disbelief in religion without offending people who do believe in it ).

OT: thanks for your post your relatives must have been fairly freaked out especially since it happened at the same time some sort of "sign" was asked for. I like to think we all linger around for whatever reason for however long maybe just to attempt to comfort others that may miss us, It's pretty common scientific fact that energy doesn't die, just changes form. How much of our conscious remains floating around would be pretty cool to find out, in my personal experience it appears at least, some of it does.

In my house, I often see (extremely define) shadows crossing the landing, when nobody is there. Its not even like the shadows are those of imaginary monsters, because they are clearly human and seem to have somewhat of a personality. I know this because everyone is either upstairs, or I'm the only one there, in my room. It could be something to do with the fact my house is built on top of an old coal mine. I also I find stuff like this immensely interesting, despite the fact I'm somewhat sceptical.

Topic is right up my alley, have had so much happen to me and family over the years. Seeing things, hear things, you name it. I really do not know where to begin but it has crossed my mind to start a section on my 'tube channel about my experiences.

I can share a more recent one. The other night I was doing a playthrough for the channel and the game was a scary type, Layers of Fear. As I was playing I saw out of the corner of my eye in the hallway something looking at me, it was a white shape, about the size of a head. When I went to turn my eyes to look at it it dissipated. I was completely freaked out but just kept on playing to not mess up the flow. Every place I have lived has had something, I was told by a sensitive it is something following me but they were not sure if its good or bad. It seems to really terrify my g/f though because it really does not bother me except little things like moving something it knows I'll need like my wallet or belt. Playing with crap like going through papers when I am trying to relax or like I mentioned, showing itself but not full on here I am. For the g/f it'll peek around corners at her or make her feel uncomfortable if I am not home to where she has to leave the house till I get home.

I have quite a lot to say because well I deal with psychics and ghosts all the time I am NOT a psychic but I know people who are and I have dealt from child ghosts right up to some extremely dangerous demonic spirits....

I see "flashes" of myself from across the room at an off angle and then I found out from 3 different psychics one in England, one in Scotland and another in the USA that there is a ghost watching me and her name is "Martha MacArthur" and well I have talked to her on a few occasions and shes a lovely women...shes in her 90s and she was born in Edinburgh in 1772 and passed away in my house in 1862 and from one of the psychics I found out she is what I call an "Evolved" psychic that means shes far more powerful than any psychic that you can think of and she protects me from harm....she prevents anyone from psychic messaging me and stuff....its extremely spooky the stuff I have had to personally deal with :)

Martha had a son who well died in the house that I currently live in (died from falling off a horse I wont put into words how he died but it was pretty nasty....) and he looked very much like me so Martha sort of "adopted" me as her "son" and she keeps me safe its very very strange what goes on with me I have good observational skills so I can spot psychics and ghosts in a house...

    OFF TOPIC!!!!!:

Also this is my return to posting after so many months away I do apologize I have been dealing with a lot of personal stuff...

Yeah it makes a lot of sense with Martha to be honest my dads machine crashing every night for a month at 2am in the morning taking out the internet...I had to get a clairvoyant in America to get Martha to her so I could chat to her and sort that out and I found out she was a military nurse as well....talk about something...

It was my dads computer crashing every night for a month before I started to realise something was up it because my dads machine is one of the most stable in the house but why would it crash and take out the network as well....those 2 things are on separate circuits on the house they wouldnt have taken each other out it didnt make sense and then in June this year I said "Martha" didnt exist and a door to the scullery slammed right behind me and that door couldnt have slammed cleanly because it was blocked at the time and my cats were meowing loudly as if something had startled them and then I realised it was Martha....and shes now a happy 90 year old lady who acts like a 30 year old prankster...

I'm always a bit worried when someone mentions child spirits, because most of the time those aren't actually children, but evil spirits/demons mimicking children. I hope you are aware of this, because you can never know for sure what you're dealing with.

I haven't really had any spirit enocunters that are worth mentioning. I've felt some bad spirits though. It's hard to breathe when they're around you and the air becomes very heavy. That's about everything I have encountered. I'm very interested in the paranormal though and would love to investigate some places, but unfortunately I don't have the money to buy proper equipment.

I know what you mean I always have a psychic on hand to double check the ghost to make sure it says who it says it is....I know the risks I run but my house is protected by Martha MacArthur who is 90 years old but she passed away in the house in 1862 and she was an evolved psychic who is unbelievably powerful...and no ghost haunts my house apart from her she will not allow it she is formidable...

As powerful as she might be, the chance a demon/spirit will attach itself to you and/or attack you still remains. You might underestimate demons a bit here. Their attacks are not always physical. They know every little thing about you and will use your personal stuff to their advantage, to try to break you down. Not trying to offend you here, this is just kind of a warning. I'd also like to hear about your encounter with a demon, if you'd want to share that.

I know about demons I have seen a few even had one attack a 1 year old girl and that turned really nasty and that demonic spirit was destroyed and I keep a 150 mile radius around one town clear of demons its well guarded and I dont like it when girls or my friends are attacked....I dont take chances, the thing about Martha is that shes peaceful likes the play the odd prank once in a while but my friend Emily who is a psychic had her checked and her back story checks out and even got a few other psychics to verify her as authentic

I can't say I've experienced much paranormal stuff in my life, most, ghost or paranormal related stuff I've heard, besides reading stories on the 'net is from a few relatives and friends, but there's a few that's left me with severe goosebumps or not being able to sleep even with the lights and TV on at night.

My first encounter with the paranormal was not too long ago, but it wasn't that recent, I was running some last minute errands for work close to end of the day, and was on my way back to the shop, by then it had gotten considerably darker, but it was still bright enough, but dark enough that you needed headlights on. There was 2 ways to get to the shop, the main road, which was congested at this hour, meaning I'd probably be stuck in traffic for about 30 minutes, or the "back" way which meant taking the highway and then take an exit which, to put it basically was the middle of nowhere. (the highway is very well used, but this certain exit doesn't have anything for several miles or so, just woods, so people rarely take this exit.) Taking this route meant that I could get to the shop faster, and basically beat the traffic, despite it being a little ways out. But I was eager to get off work, as I merged onto the exit, I wasn't paying much attention to my surroundings, only focusing on the road and well, pretty much my music which I had cranked up at the time.

I was about halfway in the exit lane, coming close to the stop sign at the end when I noticed a figure out of the corner of my eye to my left, I glanced slightly at my door mirror and caught a very short glimpse of said figure in the mirror itself, and it didn't register until I stopped at the stop sign and looked around. Nobody was within sight, there wasn't anything big enough for a person to hide behind, and there was nothing that I could have mistaken for a figure, by then that feeling of being watched by someone was creeping in, and I was getting serious goosebumps and just hauled ass out of there. I've gotten the creeps before, but never have I felt this seriously creeped out, after I asked around, a couple people have said that a while back, there was an accident involving a couple on a motorcycle, story goes, traffic slowed to a halt suddenly at the time, and people were using the exit as an alternative route. I couldn't get what exactly happened, but the husband lost control of the motorcycle, and sent both him and his wife flying off the bike, he survived with some moderate injuries but his unfortunately his wife didn't make it. So that figure that I caught glimpse of may have well been her, waiting. There wasn't much else to the accident, nor was there any names given out, like I said, I don't regularly take this route, since it's out of the way. The last time I drove past there, someone had planted one of those little crosses and a small bouquet of flowers at the spot where I had caught glimpse of that figure, presumably a relative, friend or her husband had planted it there, but again, there were no names, just a simple R.I.P.

This next encounter left me unable to sleep for a few nights, A friend of mine's parents used to own a hotel that's been open for a very long time, if I recalled, back until the early 70's, and this wasn't just one of those small motels either, this was a decently large sized hotel with up to 3 floors of rooms, and the whole building was sort of spanned in a sort of, blocky "C" shape, what's interesting though was that, usually hotels this size are most likely run by those big hotel franchises, but this one was owned by a family until my friend's parents had taken ownership since the late 90's. Like all old places, the hotel had a fair share of a rather, shady past. So the whole building already had a rather eerie, "quiet" vibe to it, so it was at that point that the hotel was dying since anything that was worth of interest nearby had either closed down or moved away, the whole area becoming "abandoned" or basically being bought out by other big companies and were bulldozing everything away to make room for those big, super ultra mega stores or whatnot. The friend had called, asking if I wanted to come fly out there and help move some things out of the hotel while also staying over, which meant I got to get away from the humdrum monotony of work for a little while.

So like I said, her parents were basically cleaning out the hotel's rooms and selling or getting rid of anything that they didn't need before the whole building was going to be demolished soon, it was pretty much like Stephen King's The Shining, except that the hotel was largely now barren and empty, room doors stood open exposing empty rooms, it was really a creepy place to be even during the day, you couldn't help but keeping an extra eye behind you when walking around. Now this sounds cliche, but when it got dark, it's only just us two cleaning out the remaining rooms behind the front desk in the lobby, so the whole place, save for the room we were in, and a few lights in the lobby were off. We had a laptop playing one of those GTA talk shows, just to keep ourselves from going stir crazy from the silence. I carrying boxes of paperwork out from the back office and was setting them down on the counter when I noticed someone walk out of sight towards the left wing of the hotel, I assumed it was my friend's father, but then I realized that nobody else should be here, my friend had noticed too and walked out into the lobby to see, I joined her and through the dark hallway, we could see this faint light at the very end where the staircase is, now the door leading into the staircase closes automatically, and to keep it open you needed the door stop, from where we were standing, the door was wide open and light was pouring through like it was lit, even though we knew full well that all of the fuses except for the lobby and offices were switched off. By this time, we were seriously creeped out. We were about halfway down the hallway, when the door began closing on it's own, what hit the nail on the head was when the door slammed shut with such force, that trying to close a door with one of those automatic closing arms is near impossible since, correct me if I'm wrong, the hydraulics prevent it from being closed too fast. The both of us immediately turned around and called it a night and left, not worrying if we had left some lights on.

I was never really a skeptic to the paranormal, but these encounters I've had, just leaves me with alot of questions.

When you say they will use personal stuff to break you down thats interesting, ive wondered about this for a while. For example say you have a realky bad day and are angry, can it then make a stranger who you are perhaps passing by on the street think to do something that you dont like such as stand in your way or some other annoying thing to try to get to you? I guess what im asking is can it enter other people around you to get them to do something to upset u? Im not sure if they have access to everyone like that but perhaps an already bad or evil person.. perhaps its like hoping from one car seat to the next for them, they take slight tempary control of the persons thoughts in a way, that seems to be most logical way they would do it, well for creatures of that nature.

Demons do not usually hop from one person to another. Others can be affected as well, but the attachment won't be carried over. They will play on your emotions when you're trying to communicate using an EVP-recorder or Spirit Box. Let's say your grandpa recently passed away. They will use that information to emotionally trigger you and break you down. When you're emotional and weak, it's easier for them to attach themselves to you or even possess you.

I even heard that they love to put humans into a highly emotional state as if they feed off of it or something, such as war, mass deaths, etc. these things cause very high emotional states in humans.
