    Why are they being so damn secretive about the ETK hatch? It's not like I can't just hack the Illuminati's all-knowing servers and find out all about it o_O I'm telling ya, the Illuminati is real, and one of these days I'm gonna find 'em. lol jk

    Much improved mirrors. Correctly aimed and assigned to a curved normal map. Resolution is very good even with reflection resolution at its lowest. Only works with dynamic reflections enabled.

    Is it possible to make the side mirrors reflect the car itself (like how most people adjust their mirrors to have a portion of the side of the car visible for reference), and to have the center mirror have the defrost lines of the rear window and part of the roof / rear seats in it's reflection? I feel it would contribute greatly to the overall feel of being in a car. It would also be cool to see the side mirrors get misaligned after a scrape with a wall bent them inward, leaving them aimed fully at the side of the car or the roof or something.

    With the system being what it is now, the reflections are sampled from a particular area near the center of the car, and specifically sample everything but the car itself. Otherwise, all you'd see is the inside or underbody of the car sampled and applied to the outside.

    Ah, makes sense, that would also explain the subtle fish-eye effect in the mirrors.

    I guess the more pertinent question here is whether or not that system is the only way, only feasible way, or simply a placeholder to await further improvements...

    Ideally we'd have a camera placed at each mirror, aimed correctly, and have it render to a texture - but that's very computationally expensive (not to mention a huge pain to set up). So this will do for now.

    New skinning system using the second UV channel for unmirrored writing. A part switches the car's material to use the skin. No more decals and no more overwriting files, either. You can put a new skin texture in the vehicle folder, the material referencing it (you can make a new materials.cs as long as it's in a subfolder, like "fullsize\skins", to avoid overwriting anything), and the new jbeam part, and it'll be selectable in-game as a part.



    Existing skins will still work, though to take advantage of the new unmirrored UVs, they'll need to be redone to fit them.

    Here's what the new UV template for skins for the Grand Marshal looks like. It's just the painted body panels, nothing else, laid out in an easy format.
