I have been playing this game for over a year now, and the name is all that is annoying me. Every time my friends are over my house and I play this game, they ask me what the name of the game that I am playing is. So I tell them the name and they always ask me what it is again later because it is harder to pronounce and remember than other words or names. Its not that i'm lazy or anything, I just think the game would make more sales just by having a new name. I think the game should have a different name, possibly something more catchy and easy to remember. My father was telling me about the Exxon gas company, and how it used to be named something different, but they changed the name and they made more sales just from a different name. He told me that it had something to do with the x's in the name and how it was catchy and had no "soft sounding letters" or something along those lines. (and what about Xbox, and how well they are doing with a "catchy" name) I think the dev's should make a poll or something so they can get everybody's opinion on this topic.
Yes it is just 2 words, but when saying Beamng out loud, the word tends to get scrambled together and it kind of sounds like beaming. It just dont think it is the best name
I like BeamNG, it's eclectic and different. I don't mind the blank stares as I try to explain what a beam is to those who couldn't really care less. The fun is showing it off without saying a word.
It is memorable. And everyone of my friends who I have told about the game remember the name. It is incredibly easy to pronounce.
I guess if everybody else thinks its fine i'll just have to deal with it. But they still might get more sales.
I disagree. They'd get more sales if they stuck to the name and reputation they've generated so far. It's unique, it's odd, but it stands out from a sea of games with formulaic titles with no memorable attributes. Plus, this is very much a non-issue.
I agree that it is an odd name for a game, but it is quite memorable and they've had it long enough that changing it might be detrimental. Think of Next Car Game/Wreckfest. There will still probably be people calling it Next Car Game long after release, which would confuse those who find it after it's just called "Wreckfest". I have noticed that the ".drive" is almost always left off of the name when people talk about it, despite it seeming like the intended name for the game.
Honestly for what beamNG is trying to do, a name change isn't going to help development any right now.
It's an easy name to remember. Whenever I tell my friends about the game and it's name, they remember it. However, when I first heard the games' name, I would have never thought that it was a car game, because I don't see how the name relates to the game in the first place!
How does "BeamNG.drive" not make it clear it's a driving game? And the name seems pretty clear and simple. The devs made a physics engine based on beams: BeamNG. They then built a driving game on that engine: .drive. I don't see how that's unclear in any way.
Boo! No way. Moving on, I like the way it's named already. It is known with this name and it should not change.
The current name is short, sweet, and meaningful. Changing the name to anything else would be counterintuitive as it's already been established. Should the name change for real, I'm certain that 90% of the users here will continue to call it BeamNG. Regarding pronunciation: Beam-En-Jee. Simple.
I don't think the name should be changed either. BeamNG.drive is easy to say and short. Easy to remember as well.
I had forgot that there was a .Drive at the end because I would always say Beamng when me and my friends were talking about the game.
