You can. A 970 with a good OC (~1500MHz) outperforms a stock 980. Still, most 980s also come with a factory OC so they're still more powerful - and they can also be overclocked, of course.
1500Mhz? I didn't know that you can overclock them like that. Until now I feared doing more than 1300.
Mine is running at 1416 MHz, stays below 60C and it's really quiet too. I had it at 1500 for a while, but it became somewhat unstable (few driver crashes and minor artifacts) so I went back. I could increase core voltage more, it's at +10 mV right now. But it works fine and I don't want to risk killing the GPU with high voltage.
Very interesting. There's that pre-overclocked Gainward GTX970 "Phoenix" of mine that I was afraid to overclock further as I didn't know how it would react. First thing to note: Why did they call it Phoenix? Do they think they are better than the others? (Second: Note my over-the-top-English. I got it by reading Conan Doyle.) @Ukkone... With the latest software, ecah 290 in your dual GPU will process for one of the two screens in the Rift.
"Hello. We are really sorry but because of problems with CPU's delivery from our supplier we are unable to complete your order. We had one CPU for you but it not passed our test. We would like to propose to take a look at our listings and maybe find something similar, or we can make full refund immediately. Once again we apologies for any inconvenience caused. Looking forward to hearing from you .We would like to do our best to help." I ordered before Christmas and had to email them twice opening a eBay complaint before getting a response. Great customer service guy's..... Worst part is they don't have any other LGA 1155 CPU's so guess who's up shit creek again...
How about you change the deliverer? I mean, someone who doesn't deliver, doesn't say a word, and when he finally does misspells half his pathetic apology doesn't deserve customers. I wonder how long it'll take them to give you your refund.
Is that so ? I tried to look more info about AMD liquidVr but i didn't found if my gpu supports that kinda wizardy.Good new then Edit: D'OH i found that information, yes my gpu supports it.
Cool stuff, isn't it? Oh, erm... What does a R9 295X2 cost? Twice as much as a 290? @Eastham Hm, what did you pay for the CPU? Sorry, I don't sound confident at all right now.
Just got my refund, I'll be buying a I5 3570K now. I hope.... *edit* Paid £120 for that I7 and that was before Christmas, I emailed the seller twice and they only responded after I made a complaint to eBay which was today...
Erm, 3570K? Let me check the performance... Yup,looks fine to me. But why do you want an LGA1155-socket? There are very little CPUs with that one on the market.
Yes it is, makes me doubt my build less. Hmm well i paid about 750e then, now i cant even find one on sale.
On Amazon you pay 850€ for it. Two normal 290s cost 750 together. Just looked it up. I would doubt that it would actually more expensive than two normal cards in Crossfire, I think it should cost the same....
Holy damn Jesus! What do you want with al those fans? Do you want to turn your computer into a vacuum? You know, the components will overheat instantly in a vacuum. four 12cm-fans are fairly enough, believe me.
