thanks I really like this idea. Unfortunately, after doing a little testing, .8 meters per pixel doesn't create a very pleasant pair of grooves. So, I'm probably going to save this idea for a high resolution crawling map. On a positive note, I've successfully pulled the fps up by about 13 on a gtx 770. These numbers do not reflect ssao, which I almost always leave off. The old average was arout 57ish. The new average is around 70ish. I removed all of the normals from the terrain, optimized the grass, and adjusted the formats of a bunch of images. I'll probably upload a version with these changes in a few days. Additional road textures and buildings are the next step.
Very nice. The mountains have such detail from a distance. Meanwhile the yokels around Appledale are busy taking the bench seats out of a church van.
