Does it matter how good the $20 CPU in my free home server PC is? The 750ti is in there because why not. It was originally a $60 650ti 1GB from EVGA which let out the magic smoke and was replaced with a 2GB 750ti SC for free.

The legacy rig needs better fans and a new motherboard that supports more RAM. And dual slot 1s would be cool. I have all my old games that I loved playing when I was little on it and such. I threw in the 5.25 drive so I could use some of the software and games I got from my grandpa awhile back.

So you are a retro gamer? Interesting.
But watch out, the side cost that makes you curse most when buying a new mainboard is a new Office license if you have one (doubt you have one on it, just saying). Be aware of Microsoft having a licesing policy that should be forbidden internationally. And second most is that you might have to change out almost everything, since you can never know if you can find one that is supporting all of your hardware.

I don't think you have to worry about the Office licence. If the version's old enough, there's no online checks. Same for the Windows license. Pre-XP versions do no online checks.
Why would you need a new Office license if you get a new motherboard?

Well, Office seems to deactivate their licenses when swapping the mainboard, at least it seems so to me. An Office 2010 license costs between €180 and €300.
@eeEtilt Okay, will check him out.

Check out their comedy channel, ChannelSuperFun.
I say "their" because Linus is the host/boss at Linus Media Group, who are in charge of the vids.
Oops, this is off topic...erm...Oh, I know, what card has the equivalent power of 4 EVGA 650Ti Boosts in SLI?

3 EVGA 650Ti Boosts in SLI.
no seriously. Pcie bandwidth on non x99 chipset motherboards isn't really high enough to do more than 2 readily and 3 at a shove, 4 is unsupported outside of x99. Even on x99, the gains of the 4th card are lost to sli overhead. 3 is max really for an effective sli setup and 4 is just for those whose penis is so small that you'd better just call it a clit.

    more seriously. 970 maybe?

    Kthx. I was wondering, that's all. I'm actually considering a 970.

Do it. With a 780W PSU you won't have anything problem-like.

Just need the money. And since a new phone is in the pipeline, I won't have a lot. That 7750 that didn't work is the card we're trying on some Lenovo desk with an i5 equal to my Q9650, because it might work then, we're going to make that my PC because 3.5GHz turboboost is useful.

Yeah, as long as it runs BeamNG, everything's fine. You don't need to be able to use full settings, but if you want, buy a 970. It's really good.

Just done a quick check, passmark scores are not definitive. But 650Ti scores 2673, 970 scores 8664 or approximately 3.24 times higher, which will still be faster than 4 650Tis in SLI.

Which means that you get way better power with a card that costs the same or less than multiple other cards together? I knew SLI was bottlenecking like crap.

theres a reason why SLI setups generally arent recommended by many and also only occur on high end cards. Its not financially viable to SLI 2 low range cards together unless its done acquiring cards over time. In general, single card is best.
SLI has compatibility issues. SLI has bottlenecks left right and centre.

Yeah, and I won't even imagine a build with two different cards with totally different performance being SLI'd together.

Not possible. SLI requires two identical cards. Crossfire allows different GPUs, it's actually not that bad.

But what would you do with a slow card decellerating your shiny new fast card via Crossfire anyway? Although there would be one way that could work: if they both had decent bus speeds, you could probably use them for totally different operations, like one for your main screen and one for - I don't know, maybe a tiny secondary screen that displys all your miscellaneous stuff.
