Automatics shift gears for you. They don't interfere when they think you're having a little too much fun and start driving the car themselves. Big difference.
What if you want to do a kickdown for fun or race to redline when you're driving? Besides, the GT-R is semiautomatic with paddle shifters, so at worst you can still tell it what you want it to do. The technology is there to enhance the car. What other car can do 60mph in 2.9 seconds with a 3.8L V6 and "only" 550hp? The only other I can find is the 991 Turbo S, which achieves the same time with a very similar engine, aided by similar technology. It's almost like saying a Tesla P85D is boring because it's silent. So what if the technology results in a tiny inconvenience when it gives a massive car so much power and agility? I know for a fact I'd have more fun in a GT-R that "drives itself" than any average "driver driven" car just because it's so much faster and agile. The GT-R is renowned for being an absolute monster in cornering performance thanks to the plethora of assists it has, why take that away?
All autos made since ever will kickdown when you stomp on it. And for revving up to the redline you have the 1st and 2nd selection which comes on most autos. I'm not saying automatic transmissions are the best things ever. I can only tolerate them on big v8s, really. Manuals are definitely more fun, but autos aren't an abomination or anything. I'm not saying it isn't a technological and engineering feat, it's just a little overrated in my book. I prefer not to have 34 computers in between my foot and the rear/front wheels (or in this case all of them). And teslas are awesome. Being completely silent is what makes them cool.
My slushbox will change gears smoother than I ever will with a manual unless I go out of my way and double clutch with perfect timing, which is far too labour intensive for my lazy self. I can drive mañuel, I think mañuel is great. I just want my daily to be an auto. It's easier. It's smoother. I don't have to replace clutches. Again, to each his own. And even then it varies with context.
Clutches can easily reach 50000 miles, really not hard to avoid abusing them... Really no big deal. My last car. At time of scrapping it still had the factory original clutch on it, just short of 150000 miles. Smooth changes also dead easy...
I have 145,000 miles on my trucks clutch with no issue. I'm not... exactly... the most... non-abusive driver with my truck either.
Half the people who like this car wouldn't give two fucks about it if it hadn't been in F&F. Don't get me wrong, the R34 is a good car, but it's not everything people claim it is. It's a heavy car that does better in a straight line than it does around a corner and sounds good doing it. That's it.
What's even more overrated is the 2015 F-150 and the 2016 Ford Raptor. Both are completely made of military-grade aluminium, making them 700 lbs. lighter than their 2013 and 2012 counterparts. At least Ford got their weight in mind, but the styling of them is absolutely hideous. It's like an autistic 5-year-old with down syndrome developed the front of this car. I don't like the C-shaped headlights, or the massive chrome front grille. It makes me want to gouge out my eyeballs with a fork; it's that bloody disgusting. On the other hand, the 2016 Raptor is even more disgusting than the stock pickup. It literally looks like Ford took a Baja truck and absolutely butchered it for street use.
The trend of making truck front ends huge needs to stop. What the hell happenned to trucks like chevy S10 that didn't have huge gaping mouths in the front? Why does every modern truck have a front end so huge it could be used as a shelter for stray dogs?
The ridgeline is okay, by modern truck standards. What i'm talking about is shit like this: What the fuck is this? miles of wheel gap yet such massive bumpers that you end up with no ground clearance. Why do you need such a big front end? You could chop off that front bumper and the truck would look okay. Damn
a truck is for hauling things, not for having a big front end. might as well be marketed as an suv. --- Post updated --- this old prius and the new prius ARE HEAPS OF SCRAP MEATAL THAT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED EYE SOURS NOT CARS.
They save alot of fuel and are somewhat practical, despite their looks, not under rated at all imo. In fact I think they get too much hate.
Fact is, being a car guy seems to involve hating on Priuses. Especially YouTube has obviously made a part of that..... And now that I'm here, I'll show you this pic: Right? EDIT: I should explain this, so I explain it: To me, the Trans Am is a car that is bought as a penis extension. It is a muscle car, which means that it sounds brutally deep but doesn't drive well at all. Despite having 4.5 (or was it 5?) liters of displacement, it made only about 200 hp. That's if you calculate 40-45hp/l. If you strap a carburettor on, you can get 300 hp (60-67hp/l) out of it. Not very much. Also, I'm okay with it if they make little sprayings on their cars, but really? That giant thing on the hood there looks like it's supposed to add 50hp. (Little hint: I calculated it out. It adds exactly 0 hp.)
