I may have found a replacement for good old Tom my Pentium Dos machine, negotiating with someone over a IBM PS/2 Model 30. Intel i286 Power!
Nicceee. i have always wanted one. i do have an ibm 5160 and a clone of it as well. so thats something.
Wow.. There's a lotta vintage computer enthusiasts here. That's awesome, what was the main difference between the 5150 and the 5160. I can't for the life of me remember. I could probably Google it but I'm a Eastham (whatever that is) and that means I'm lazy.
i believe it was the fact that the 5150 had no hard drive, while the 5160 did. i also have a boatload of vintage macintosh and other assorted vintage computers pictures of most, but not all http://imgur.com/a/5LZbm
Kinda like me and vintage audio equipment only I don't have shelf's and most of them are half restored stacked atop of each other in a walk in closet... I used to have a hoard of computers but they where mostly pentium 3/ 2 pc's and I eventually sold them off, you'd be amazed how much people will pay for a beige PC if you put "DOS GAMING PC" in the title ahaha. --- Post updated --- Negotiations have ended the PS/2 is mine, guy sent me a pic. Needs a little clean and a few bits n bobs.
With a 760 I got about 40FPS maxed with reflections so with a 750TI I would imagine you could get about 50ish maxed without reflections if not 60.
Right, window has been open, heating in room off, graphics card fan speed overriden to 100% and intake fans at 100% yet at 0% load. 54c.... Wtf. It was below 35 yesterday. Thermal paste is all I can think of and surely can't go that wrong overnight
That's definitely not right, perhaps it is thermal paste or some how the heatsink has lifted off the chip slightly through flex or something (no idea how that would happen though)
Getting my trusty 'ol Pentium 4 IBM Netvista going again to make some Floppy Diskettes! *Saying that makes me nostalgic*
Rebuilt PC has booted! Currently on second PC ripping drivers from CD (no optical drive in my PC!). Temperatures are a lot higher on the CPU than I would like, 38 C - 44 C is a little toasty for idle, but I'll give it a while to settle in/burn in (using AS5) and see what comes next. Probably reapplying it, AS5 is pretty high viscosity and I'm pretty incompetent.
Why not just download them from the internet then plop it on a flash drive or something? Generally drivers on the discs that come with the hardware are out of date
i use a pentium 4 to write my floppies as well. i put a 5 1/4 inch floppy drive in it. its an hp, but i think the ram is dying. that sucks because its the ram that requires dummy ram in the fake slots and i dont have any sticks of that ram. EDIT welp, im gonna try to make a proof of concept freenas server with parts i have laying around Its specs are 10,000 rpm boot drive 4 sketchy 80gb drives 4 port pci raid card Msi something red pcb motherboard dual core 775 processor 512mb of ram Freenas as the OS.
Fresh thermal paste. Cleaned heat sink (not that it had enough dust to clog it at all). Some gaming to let GPU warm up and let paste burn in properly. Still got GPU idling at 51 up from the 25-35 bracket. No idea what is wrong at this point.
