Wiki chart unit specs: Metric vsersus Imperial

Discussion in 'Troubleshooting: Bugs, Questions and Support' started by Lime Cola, Feb 13, 2016.

Wiki chart unit specs: Should the wheight be Metric or Imperial?

  1. Metric (kg)- it's scientific and is more widely accepted

    77.4%
  2. Imperial (lbs)- it's (mostly) american and makes sense for the majority of users

    3.2%
  3. Both- It may be more room and make the charts look bloated, but its the best choice for everyone

    19.4%

As a frequent editor of the vehicle wiki pages, I have arrived at the problem where cars are featured with different transmissions per vehicle type (ex. the Bruckell Moonhawk v8 w/ 3/4-speed auto&manual). Should I add both imperial and metric for multiple transmissions or should I stick with one? The weight difference is usually about 10-15lbs (5-7kg) per transmission type. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just wanted to send you a PM about this matter, when I saw this poll. In my opinion the only acceptable option is to use only metric units, because there are only three nations that have not yet adopted the SI. Though one of them is USA, the country which many users of the wiki lives in, I don't think that there is "the majority" of them (maybe we have some forum statistics?). Also pound is refered to "units of measurement and denominations whose use must be discontinued as soon as possible" by International Organization of Legal Metrology. Presenting values in both system is not an option, it will make the charts unreadable. This is what I think. I told almost nothing new, compared to poll options descriptions, but I got really annoyed by mph which almost speedometer in BeamNG uses, so I decided to promote SI units in the wiki at least. :) Sorry for my English, it will be great if you will point out my mistakes.

no offence but stop crying about imperial units. pounds and MPH aren't going anywhere. there is no reason we cant have both and there is no reason to be offended by the presence of non SI units. and just for the record since im here already, anybody who lets a group called the "International Organization of Legal Metrology" dictate to them how to describe how fast their car is going is a pillock and a proper wanker. what a faff.

My opinion, weights in the wiki should be in kilos on the basis that the game engine itself uses kilos.

Speeds and power, I am more indifferent to, although I really dont see the issue with simply putting
60 (100) for speed. Mph (or kmh, I'm indifferent) followed by the converted speed in brackets.

I have just expressed my opinion. If you think I'm offended and crying then try to perceive things more positive. Also it is looks like you are offended, not me.

    Definitely the are not.

But you still voted for "Only imperial".

This is called standardisation. By the way, the document where it is written is type "D", so it is for informational purposes only, no enforcement here.

Good point, I don't see a problem putting speed in mph in brackets, the numbers won't be long there (Though I can't say it about the weights).

i voted that way to prove a point. in a science lab sure use metric god bless you base ten people. on the race track its pounds and mph for me and a lot of others here in both the US and europe. im not offended not yet, not until you take my preferred unit of measure away. i take my tea with both lemon and milk, but wouldn't force the same on you catch my drift? yes that was a richard feynman reference.
EDIT: its bad enough i have to convert torque to foot pounds when making torque curves. at least the etk has the option for an MPH speedo. Thanks @gabester.

i really didnt know that thanks. i have to convert that to foot pounds to work on the curves than convert back. im not really complaining about that but we should all be able to use whatever units we want.

I've only come across dyno charts in Newton metres and foot pounds. Should either need 0 or 1 conversion.

hint. Get excel, set a cell up with a formula to convert cell a1 to whatever. Keep changing a1's contents, done

this is why i should have payed attention in "hi" school computer class. again its not a big deal but please don't change to only using metric everywhere as it will alienate us imperial guys for literally no benefit. also, left hand drive for life.
