I really enjoy BeamNG. Even in the tech-demo state it's in now, it is something I had dreamed about since I played Driver as a kid. But one thing troubles me. While of course classic sedans and sport-cars are fun, the stars of the show (for me) are vehicles such as the Pigeon and flatbed/cargo box versions of Gravil trucks. You can do a lot of fun things with them, interesting physics experiments. You can't do a that much with regular cars, just drive/race them and take pretty screenshots. Or use as a cannon fodder for the aforementioned experiments. Personally for me, a physics enthusiast first and a car enthusiast close second, Gravil Grand Marshal and both Ibishu Pessimas, or Hirochi Sunburst, SBR4 and ETK 800 are the same car. And I feel like the talent of vehicle designers is kind-of wasted on them, instead of making each vehicle bring something new to the table. Forklift, bulldozer, crane-truck, airport baggage trains and airplane tugs, tanks and APC's... I am aware of modding and take full advantage of it, but they're often not on the same level quality. tl;dr: Why have three sedans if you can have a sedan, a forklift and a formula racing car. I am not trying to say how you should make your game. Obviously the developer should make what he enjoys in the first place. I only want to know if more diverse roster of vehicles is planned or considered.
Don't worry, its its awesome to hear feedback and we are always trying to read these things - so thanks for your feedback The heavy machinery/forklift/etc are blocked by not having command beams. We want to simulate a oil pressured hydraulics at some point to achieve this Sadly, the day has 24 hours and we can only try to do that much, lots of things have higher priority than this.
I suspected that the reason might be technical. Makes me glad that it's a temporary limitation and not a decision. Thanks for your reply!
I love the cement mixer that can go over 85 mph on hirochi raceway. I hope for a forklift that can go 600 mph like I used to drive. Or a wooden raft that can fly really high above the map. I used to play with one last year.
I have to say that - although more diverse vehicles are never a bad thing - I completely disagree on the fact that you stated that the Grand Marshal, Pessimas, Sunburst, SBR4 and ETK 800 are (practically?) the same car. Both in styling, period - full size 90's American saloon, medium size 80's - 00's Japanese saloons, medium size 10's Japanese saloon, 10's 2+2 Japanese sports hatchback/station/fastback-y and 10's German station (please correct me if I'm wrong) - and driving - ranging from 'cruise ship' for the Grand Marshall to 'Porsche 911' for the SBR4 - all those cars are completely incomparable in my opinion, and as a result I've had hours and hours of fun with all of them separately. Despite these possibly differing opinions the one constant factor is the amazing work the devs deliver, regardless of what vehicle/feature it is. Please keep up the amazing work!
I would love to come volunteer for the BeamNG team. I have some good 3D modeling skills with Blender and a little bit of scripting skills (Mostly with C# in Unity and Lua). Unfortunately I live in Southeast Texas which is a little way too far from California! I'm also busy with high school, my senior year.
I did not state that. "Gravil Grand Marshal and both Ibishu Pessimas, or Hirochi Sunburst, SBR4 and ETK 800 are the same car" is what I said. Of course I wasn't comparing the Grand Marshal to Sunburst or ETK800.
The pessimas and grand marshal are all very different vehicles, the 90's pessima is a bland melty 90's japanese blob with no redeaming qualities, the 80's pessima is a sporty economy car with 4ws as an option that can be used for racing or rally, the grand marshal is a large somewhat luxurious American sedan with a bit of power, the sbr4 and etk 800 are kinda similar but the hirochi sunburst is more of a rally car.
