AMD OR INTEL?

I am building a PC
BUT
I can't decide weather or not to go with AMD or Intel. I have £150 or $212.
I need it for gaming, editing and work.
Any ideas?

How much will you play BeamNG.drive? If a lot, then go with Intel.

 

Intel seems to be the best with BeamNG considering that is one game you are going to play on it.

 

Intel is the way to go, AMD just isnt built to handle all the calculations per second that BeamNG does...

AMD hasn't released a decent CPU since 2011.
For £150 you can get an entry level i5 (i5-4460 or 6400), great gaming CPU.

 

amd cpus are 5 years old, buying amd will only maybe be worth it when zen launches

Also for the CPU, what mobo do you recommend?

 

What are your current gaming pc specs also I would advise going water cooling it may be a bit costly but your processor will last longer and it will run cooler

Think about it. would you want CPU failure on a £250 CPU or have a cpu thats water cooled and keeps running and doesnt thermal throttle...

 

Except you dont need to go to watercooling to do that. Plus you seem to be stuck in the past with the idea of warm CPU living a short life, ok, no, dont run them at 70 odd celcius, but air is more than adequate. Hell it will last until it is obsolete on the stock intel air cooler. If he needs an upgraded cooler, cooler masters hyper 212 evo costs a mere fraction of the price of watercooling yet can keep a 100W (higher than mainstream intel at full utilisation) load at below 50C.

 

Intel Core i5-6400 Boxed 2,7-3,3 Ghz: 187 Euros.
or:
Intel Core i5 4460 Boxed 3,2-3,4 Ghz: 180 Euros.
The 6400 is newer and more energy efficient, but the 4460 is slightly faster in single-core performance.

I'd recommend saving a bit more for an i5 6500, which clocks from 3,2 to 3,6 Ghz but costs 208 Euros.

What about atx motherboards?

 

Motherboard needs to match processor, you'll be looking at a H170 or similar chipsets for LGA 1151. Good brands include Asus, Gigabyte, MSI.

What is everyone using?

 

I had a Gigabyte GA-H97-d3h, there's a h170 version called the GA-H170-hd3 of it available. I can't say it's the best, but it was functional and reliable and won't disappoint you. It might be a little out of you budget, but I can't say how much it costs where you live.

 

I had problems with Gigabyte I would EITHER go with Asus or MSI myself

 

I've had problems with EVGA, doesn't mean you need to steer clear from the whole brand. Gigabyte is generally cheaper and quite ubiquitous while matching the quality of most other brands.
