Wrong. An i5 is "better" than an i7 because it's just as good single thread performance wise, just less cores. For way less money. AMDs are crap for gaming, because they have crappy single thread performance. Please do better research and you'll find out that $1200 is really enough for a great gaming computer (i5 6600K, GTX 970, DDR4 RAM).
What?.. I think you'll find that most I5's are more than capable of running multiple AA titles and my I5 stock clocked is on par with a AMD 8 core in terms of multi core and absolutely destroys it in single threaded applications.
Wrong and wrong. You don't need an i7 for gaming - you need single thread performance, in which an i5 is just as good. More threads won't really help. And AMD CPUs are crap - more cores, but terrible single threaded performance. Really bad for gaming, an 8-core FX won't perform much better than an i3.
I was just wondering lol, For now my PC is ok I can handle the lag since its short and unlike my laptop is better. I was looking at what i should buy next, I already have a motherboard on the list. The one that most people use for gaming. Of course i need around probably $600 or more to have an high end Motherboard and CPU to do gaming, But I'm also going to upgrade my GPU since its only 2GB and I would like a 4gb one to do more gaming with my GPU.
You really don't need a high end board. Anything above an ASUS A-series or MSI/Gigabyte base SLI models is overkill. If you want to upgrade your GPU that's fine, but get a new CPU first since that is what's holding you back right now.
Ok im home now, This is just with Chrome open and skype. --- Post updated --- Oh 1 more thing I forgot, I have a Overclocked CPU i believe can't remember if its overclocked or if my GPU is already Overclocked.
That is the normal overclocking speed for the Q8200, which runs around 2.33 ghz. It's not uncommon for a CPU to read a slightly lower than advertised clock speed when at stock clock settings. And as the others have said, your CPU is bogging you down SEVERELY. It's like expecting to reach more than 300 km/h with 1200 HP in a minivan...you've got an absolute ton of power, but nowhere near the aerodynamic capacity needed to allow that thing to go this fast.
Oh jeez that's a lot of replies, thanks for the info guys, I was stuck with i7 being rather more powerful in my head for gaming
Would this be good to buy? I might save up for a 4GB Video card On Brutal Slope 2 or something, I used the Barstow Terrible I got 40FPS So nothings wrong, It's probably just my overclocking that scared me. I'm new to this lol. Never owned anything that could overclock. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/evga-ge...lack/4047283.p?id=1219618220101&skuId=4047283
It's okay. Also, sorry if I sounded rude. I think that was the first thing I could think of for an awnser.
I looked in my case last night, What is a great way to get my GPU more air? Its on the very bottom of my case and it doesn't really get much air. I had to change the temp so I could play games like Spintires because it would shut down at 45 Celsius Even euro truck sim 2 would shut down my PC and I refunded the game before i realized MSI afterburner changes the temp limit to not shut down.
It really shouldn't shut down at 45C, that's very cool for a GPU. Temps below 70C under gaming load are good, under 80C is fine but a bit high. Nvidia cards will throttle at 83C by default.
Yeah, BeamNG reaches at around 40-45 Celsius. So i changed my temp limit to max for gaming so when I'm playing a game ill enable the option and use it for gaming than use another preset for just things like browsing the internet.
Just set temp limit to the stock 83C and leave it there. Anything below 80 won't affect the GPU in any way.
Problems with desktop, DVD drive doesn't properly even work, I got an external from the guy. Someday i might get into it and fix it or just buy a new one to test it out with. Going to buy me a few fans hopefully that light up blue like my 600wat power supply. --- Post updated --- My desktop is a Gateway lx6810, Here's a google picture of it. I don't have a anything to really take a good quality picture.
960 isn't much of an upgrade over a 760. Also, VRAM != performance, 2GB shouldn't be too much of a bottleneck in 1080p. Get a 970, or wait for Pascal. You really need to upgrade your CPU first though. Get an i5, you'll see a massive performance boost in most games.
Probably Q2/3 2016. Nvidia seems to be having issues with producing the chips, it's very likely Polaris will be out first, which is good for AMD and very bad for Nvidia.
Frankly, if you are really cash strapped, an i3-6100 is actually pretty good, they will beat out 6 core AMD CPUs by a little in overall performance and destroy them in single-threaded applications. (They use the same core architecture as other skylake CPUs such as the i5-6500 or the i7-6700k, there are just not as many cores there.) And there is a cheaty way to overclock them if you find a Z97 motherboard without the updated BIOS.
