Starting at the default spawn point, and ending stopped next to the gas station, how fast can you make it around Dry Rock Island? Rules: - Cutting corners is allowed, but must take the general paved path around the island. - Counterclockwise direction - Can only use the Covet Turbo Rally edition, and no modifying it from stock - Wrecks are ok - keep driving if you can - Mention what input device you are using to drive with. My best time (using a keyboard) was 2:24. Well, it was actually my only time. All the other 28 tries ended in bent metal and tears. Here's a video of my run, as soon as it finishes uploading: http://youtu.be/5SBdlpppyy8
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall dat escalating! try shift+b, dunno if it helps you as such things are personal taste. may give it a try
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall Time 1.59 Used keyboard
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall Thanks for the SHIFT+B Tip. For those who don't know: That disables the analogue steering effect if you are using a digital (keyboard) input. Edit: At the moment it applies the effect all the time, meaning even with a gamepad. I may try this challenge some time in the future, but why did you chose the Rally version? Sport would be more appropriate for that terrain.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall 1:52:??? - Gamepad - Manual shifting I think 1:49:*** would be possible, probably even 1:48. @fyzz08: I think he actually meant driving into the refuelling station. He measured until the stop there too. I'd personally be happier about timing during full speed, when passing some point of the station. Or even a lap system, where you lap count from passing the station onwards.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall Thanks, I actually didn't know about this! I want to try it out with my wheel (Momo) as well, just haven't had a chance to figure out how to hook it up for this. I imagine it'll be easier to use than the keyboard though. Nice times fyzz08 and Meral Harbes! I'll post a new thread with a new challenge based on the various suggestions here soon.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I want to do this sometime, but please note that the more fps you have, the faster you will go. So those with a poor pc will get less fps than a high end pc.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall Good point... :\
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I want to note that my replay was driven in version 0.3.0.1. Sorry about that, I didn't know there was an update. @The_Soldiet: Thanks for that Information! Then of course this Challenge would be void. However I just did another lap with all settings turned to lowest and "only" did about 1:55:??? with about 74 to 144 fps. The replay above was locked at 30. Then again I don't know what the update brought in that regard. Are you sure this information is up to date? I doubt that CryEngine3 allows this without one purposely programming it that way. And I also doubt that the devs designed the simulation that way. But you might of course still be right, there are reasons to do it otherwise. Would you care to share a source? Btw. There is another challenge thread like this one for the "Small Island, USA" map, but I can't find it anymore.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I dont have a real source, but i have personal experience. My friend has a much lower end pc than i have and the fps is lower than what i get. You wont notice much of a difference between 60 fps and 120 only that it is smoother, but when i play on my friends pc which usually gets about 30-40 fps, i notice a huge difference compared to my pc in terms of the speed the cars goes at. Feels like somekind of slow mo. When i play on my pc and i get into a laggy area it feels like im going into slow mo, wich im not. So when playing at 30 fps you are in a permanent slow mo. A car racing at 60 fps would reach the target faster than one with 30 fps. Sorry for my english. Norwegian Edit: it isnt using cryengine, but it is using torque 3d as the graphical engine.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall The graphics engine won't interfere with the simulation speed, they are not linked in BeamNG. Simulation&game-play calculations are linked to the time a frame requires to be rendered, it will run independent from your system performance, so everybody pretty much experiences the same result. Take a look at this. Your personal experience will differ tough. It is harder to drive at 30 fps than it is with 60. Take a look at this.
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall You do have a good point! I want to do a real test comparing 30 - 60 fps, but allot of things is happening so i cant right now :-(
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall nice one [these are additional but useless characters]
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall that other rally competition has ended
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I gave this another shot last night, after finding out about shift+b, and even still, the best time I can achieve is 2:10 or so... next step tonight is to get the wheel hooked up!

Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I cleared a solid 2:00.812 with one fullstop and reverse fail. Recorded, but need to upload. -Keyboard -Android stopwatch app
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I managed 1:58 after a few goes, not recorded though. Using 360 controller. Tried with all other vehicles and some variations and can't get quicker, if anyone wanted to know the '49 Cadillac can do it in 2:21
Re: A Friendly Competition - Timetrial Around Dry Rock Island in the Covet Turbo Rall I have looked it up and created this thread to provide an overview: Challenges Overview According to those rules here is my attempt. Times Outlap: 1:42:21 Lap: 1:40:24 XBox 360 Gamepad and manual shifting.
