We converted our super old and hardcoded camera code to Lua finally. This makes it possible to improve the camera that we neglected severely over the last years.

    So, the question is:
    • What do you want to see as camera modes?
    • On the vehicle mods as well as drive-by or TV-like camera mods ideas please!
    • References? Videos?
I found this so far to be at last a little bit of help: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinematic_techniques

Would love to hear your opinions on this, thanks!

I'd like to see a camera that stays in one position and just rotates to follow the current vehicle.

I would like to have a cinematic camera like in Driver San Fransisco and a Top-down camera like those old GTA games

Maybe the ability to move the camera freely, like pressing CTRL+C, but then pressing a key which locks the camera in relation to the vehicle? Would allow for many custom camera angles, and more cinematic shots.

Kind of like the adjustable camera but easier to place and set up.

Example: You could make this shot just by going to that position in free cam mode, pressing the button and it locks on. No need to create camera node

Man this is good news. I would initially say a static cam and something very similar to the Driver replay system. Not sure what you guys have in mind
but general control of camera placement and their functions would be very nice. You guys are awesome! This will probably get me motivated
to start learning to make videos:cool:.

Along those lines, there could also be a mode where the camera moves, like from a helicopter, while it tracks an object:

I would like to be able to adjust the interior camera up, down, left, right, and the field of view just by using key bindings. Instead of editing the jbeam.

If that's possible I would really like that and I'm sure others would too:)

Can we have one of those tower-cam things like MS:FSX, RoR and Live for Speed? It's where the camera is placed in a random position facing the car, and switches when out of range?

The ability to turn off auto rotate, or have a system like GTA where it disables auto rot for a few seconds if it detects rotational input.

I can't describe how happy i am right now, the camera is the only major annoyance i have with BeamNG.

Keep it up guys and have a nice day. :)

Assetto Corsa has a nice hidden camera mode which I find pretty interesting.
It's basically a camera mode that is attached to a car.
The fun part is that you can move the camera, and it will keep following the car.

A video would be easier to explain:

Allows for a whole new bunch of camera's angle and etc :)

The camera should follow the vertical rotation of the car (in some situations). When doing a loopty-loop it's not very pleasant. Also when falling, the camera randomly shows the other side of the car. Hard to explain... Here's a video:
