An MRAP at Hirochi raceway traveling at relativistic speeds.

OT: I don't really like this idea, the fear of damage is what keeps me from racing like I do in other games (riding walls and bouncing turns). The damage model adds a consequence to poor driving that precious few other games have. Also, if I suck, I want to REALLY know it.

Depending on the car it might safer ride a wall instead of properly taking a turn and risking a crash if the fenders are far enough away from the wheels, and what do you mean bouncing turns? and does that actually work well for you in other games? normally the main thing I do in other games is use other cars to help me with turns and braking... by which I mean I slam into them at full speed to slow down and get me pointed in the direction I should be if its a game with no damage at all like gran turismo, and if there is damage I still do the same thing... just slower, I feel like the main things that would deter me not to is radiator damage depending on how long the race is and the fear of being stuck in another car, if it was possible to get injured or die once career mode gets added then I would probably die a lot more sensibly but unfortunately the devs don't want any actual violence in Beam so thats very unlikely to happen without a modder spending years making a ragdoll for all the cars, making some way of keeping track of damage and did a complete overhaul of the career mode that we currently don't even know will be modifiable or what it will be like at all. the only other game to my knowledge that even might eventually get made with a death mechanic is my summer car but I couldn't really find any information on it and I don't even think its going to be a racing game but I'm not sure because I didn't really find much information on it.. but anyways rant over on what makes me drive like an idiot in video games... well there are other reasons but I'm pretty sure a lot of those reasons are the reasons I drive like an idiot in real life.

By bouncing turns I mean sliding into an object (a wall or another car) and "bouncing'' off the object to rebound my car in the right direction. In addition, riding the wall was not an alternative to crashing, but as an alternative to taking turns normally, in some games like NFSU2 that have curved walls around turns it is much faster to simply use the outer wall's curved surface to make the turn as opposed to using the brakes. Obviously, neither of these techniques would be viable in Beam due to damage. One arcade technique that DOES carry over to Beam (at least at the moment) is downshift braking. Downshift breaking takes advantage of the unlimited revs of virtual engines to slow the car faster than brakes alone. for example, approaching a hairpin bend at 100 miles per hour, manual downshifting from fifth to first will force the engine into at least 12000 revs, but the engine will rapidly lose those revs, slowing the car much faster than normally possible.

OT: I think that since Beam is going for hardcore physics realism, this 'Arcade' feature is fairly pointless and is just for people that don't want to mess up their paint job because they can't take a corner properly.

My point that some cars might still be able to ride a wall without taking damage still applies, I think that the chopped burnside would probably be reletivly undamaged from wallriding.

    Exactly, Most MRAPs can only go about 30-60 miles per hour, and coupled with slow handling and acceleration, it would be a R E A L L Y S L O W R A C E.
