If your game lags consider turning off shadows.

I've recently discovered you can disable shadows. For me this has by far given the greatest jump in fps of any of the other settings, while not really taking much away from the game.

You'l need to enable advanced menu options (there's a check box for it in the settings).

Once enabled you'l see extra tabs in the esc panel on the left.

Enter debug menu and find the disable shadows check box.

Depending on the map I'll usually get 10-15 extra FPS with shadows off. This often makes the difference between smooth play and stuttery play.

I've found this invaluable so I hope someone else might benefit from it.

Another thing you can do to largly improve your fps is purchase a video card. I upgraded from an nvidia 640 to a 950 and now i can run at maximum settings and still get 50fps or so

However that costs money, changing a setting is free.

Though in many cases, a settings change will not be enough.

I'll try the shadows trick for fun. I'd really like to kill my input lag however. I didn't realize it was that bad until i tried rfactor2.

Get a better CPU and GPU.

I run at max with a 960 4gb and get around 45-70fps. I do have a fx 9590 though which may mean I loose 2-5fps.

Change the title to "If your game lags, consider buying a new GPU"

If you don`t have much cash consider the gigabyte gtx 960 4gb. You can get it from as little as £170.

I`m 13 too! I have a high end gamer. I got it as an early Birthday gift, I`m not spoilt or anything. I work very hard for things like this. Cost £1200! Still working off half of the value :/

Chores, school work/grades and good behavior in school and out. Got in all top sets and got at least a B in half of my subjects, the majority of the rest I got an A. In Music and P.E/Gym Class I got a C.

How much do you have now? Save up a lot of money and then get your parents to pay some of it. Translate the cash in USD if you want.

    My suggestions:

    Gtx 960 4GB £170-195
    Gtx 970 4GB £250-300
    R7 370x 4GB £100-150
    R9 390X 8GB £315-360

If you have a lot more cash to spend:
    GTX 980 £350-450
    GTX 980ti £500-600

I have money in the bank (that i wont use for this) and i have a couple hundred at home. I cant/wont buy a 980ti, even if i have enough, and the 980 is on the pricy side. I want to stick with GTX though, so i might be looking at 960-970. and i watch it, i have f1 2015, but dont play it. I just got that gif cause i thought it was funny, seeing a F1 car go rallying, xD

By all means the 960-970 are better choices for now. The 980 is a little too much.

No it isn`t. I had that in my old pc. If you have a crap gpu then it slows it down. You should leave it in if you`ve spent all of your cash. It should do anyway. The FX 9590 would be a better option though IF you have £170 to spend.
