Both Win7 and 8 have their upsides and downsides. I moved onto Windows 8 back in December from Windows 7 and I don't regret it (my work laptop still uses 7).

People moan about the new start menu, but in reality, you don't have to use it (I've always pinned my applications to the task bar since Win7. I've also downloaded a start menu replacement app called Pokki which does a great job of being a start menu - although I very rarely use it because everything I use constantly is pinned.

With Windows 8.1 coming (I've tried the preview build - but my Anti-Virus killed it due to incompatibilities so back on standard 8) it gives massive improvements to the desktop experience. Something as simple as seeing your background through the new start menu makes this so much better. Along with allowing smaller icons and renaming groups, 8.1 certainly makes the desktop experience better. :)

The biggest upside to Windows 8 is performance. It's far, far better optimised than Windows 7 (which after SP1 overtook Windows XP as my OS of choice). Those still on XP really do need to move on as their systems are almost definitely being held back by it. By the time 8.1 comes it may overtake Windows 7 as my favourite OS. ;)

I used windows 8 back when microsoft let you download and test it.

The interface is annoying and after a couple days it just got a black screen and wouldn't boot. That was shitty.

It's funny that you say the interface is annoying, because you can use the desktop as in Windows 7, Vista, xp, etc.

I personally run Windows 7 on my rig but I have absolutely nothing against Windows 8, it is great! My buddy has an Asus ROG G75VW running Windows 8, we installed Stardocks Start8 program and VLC media player, Windows 8 uses less resources and with start8 it provides the great usability with no more metro ui just like windows 7 but runs way better and has more features! I like both Windows 7 and Windows 8 evenly, It really just depends if you want to install a few more programs to get the feel of Windows 7 back or just get Windows 7 rather than 8.

I use Windows 8. But with a few 3[SUP][SUB]rd [/SUB][/SUP]Party Add-ons that make it almost identical to Windows 7.

I personally cant stand windows 8. When i built my pc it was just coming out and thats all you could find, so i went on newegg and bought like 3 or four OME versions of windows 7. If you dont have a touch screen then windows 8 is useless!!

No offence but you're completely wrong, windows 8 has a desktop like W7. W8 is more optimized and has the same interface as W7 + the W8 interface which I don't like but I don't care because I can choose not to use it.
