Did you know that Oldsmobile once made a diesel? It isn't really good at all. So Oldsmobile tries to hide it even when it was discoutinued.
Cool idea for a thread. Did you know that there were 2 stroke diesel engines that were widely used? If you live in the US, you've probably heard one at some point in your life, but didn't realize what it was. They were made by GM's "Detroit Diesel" , and came in many varieties and displacements. They were named for both their displacement per cylinder, and their cylinder count/arrangement. A "6V53" would be 6 cylinders, in a V shape, with 53 cubic inches of displacement per cylinder. A "T", "N", "TT", or "TA" after the displacement would mean "Turbo", "4 valve per cylinder", "Tuned Torque", and "Turbo Aftercooled" respectively. They could rotate in either direction, had several displacements between 53ci, and 149ci per cylinder, and were made in I1, I2, I3, I4, I6, V6, V8, V12, V16, and V24 configurations. They still only revved to standard diesel RPM levels (2000-3000rpms), but fired twice as often, resulting in a unique exhaust note. Here is a 12V53T Although it weighs around 2500 lbs, it produces more than 600hp, with ~1300lb-ft of torque. Even the 4 cylinder models have a visceral and unique sound, like this 4-53T with Jake Brakes and a twin stick trans.
Did you know 2 stroke engines are more thermally efficient, have a higher power to weight ratio and a higher power to displacement ratio than their 4 stroke counterparts. The age old claim that 2 stroke engines are by their nature dirty is also a myth. However its only in recent years that 2 stroke engines can be made to run as cleanly as their 4 stroke counterparts and so they're kinda not actually around as automotive engines.
Did you know that Ram is the only American pickup truck that uses another company's diesel engine? Ram uses Cummins engines while Ford and Chevy use their own engine.
I didn't realize that 2 stroke diesels are very different compared to 2 stroke petrol engines until you mentioned 4 valve per cylinder. Quite a nice sound tho.

They can sort of be made in the same way as the conventional chainsaw/moped style petrol 2 stroke, petrol ones can be made in the same style as the detroit diesels too.

Did you know that some car manufacturers made models of their cars? This was started in the early 1950s and stopped around the late 1990s to early 2000s. The company AMT made miniature versions of the real cars, so when you bought a car in a certain color you would get a miniature version of the car in that color. I have a couple, a 1991 Geo Storm and a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue. The intrigue was pretty hard to find and also pretty expensive.
