Thanks! Fixed for More Features Mod 7.86 (when it's released). I had it do that, but a forum member said it was unrealistic, so I removed it. I'll think about it.
About the starter upping up the rpm, I think no car actually shows that on the tacho, so implementing it would be tricky. I found some useful info, (and some cool sounds too!!) on wikipedia of all places https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starter_(engine)#Electric
But it is realistic! Have you ever driven MT car? If you wont turn off gear or fully press clutch, when you'll try to start the engine with starter the car would instantly jump half a meter and stall, and that's bad for the engine and the transmission. That's all because of the starter revving up RPM's to 200-250 (depends on a car) - and that's enough for an engine to start. Same stuff goes on while clutchstarting, but RPM's are made not by a starter, but by the wheels-transmission-engine link.
As I said earlier, @PainyTOXA , while that's technically what actually happens under the hood when you crank the engine, I don't know any car whose tacho shows that RPM prior to the engine start, so implementing that would be a waste of time as there is still not a starter engine model, nor in the base game or this mod. As for the jump, cars already do the jump-and-stall in this mod if you try to start the engine without pressing the clutch (and have a realistic stall rpm set) I even made a video few weeks ago in this thread to collect sounds and give people a reference of the lights and tacho behaviour of an Astra
It is actually possible to start a car in gear without using the clutch. Depending on the car and gear it'll still get going. My car for example can do it in 1st and 2nd, most cars according to my mechanic uncle should be able to do it in 3rd as well (can't confirm this though). Also something that isn't quite realistic about the mod: you can actually change gear without using the clutch when the engine is turned off in real life. And a "bug" when you turn on the left indicator and steer to the right, it'll still turn off the indicator when the steering gets back to center. It should stay on until you get back to center after steering to the left.
You CAN change gear without using the clutch when the engine is turned off. It's just a tiny bit harder than doing it with the clutch, I mean for the love of God, I recorded myself doing exactly that. EDIT: wait a second, I think I misread your post but, are you saying that the mod isn't letting you change gears with the engine off? because unless I'm missing something on the last update, it should let you do that And as for starting the car in gear without pressing clutch, that depends on the car's torque. The diesel we used at driving school would have no problem doing that, meanwhile my Astra can stay in motion if I start in first gear on a very level surface, but has problems and many times stalls in second gear unless there's some kind of downwards inclination. Then again, it's a pretty weak and heavy car.
Either you read it wrong or I didn't say it clear enough, but I said that you can change gear without the clutch IRL, while you can't with the mod. My car weighs 710kg (dry) but also only has a very weak 1.1 engine, and did indeed struggle doing it in 2nd with two passengers on level ground. Whether it'll start or not might also depend on how short your gear ratios are though, I'd think. But I again have no proof for that.
Yeah, read it wrong, that's why I edited my original post. The thing is you should be able to do that with this mod, that's why I got it wrong. We even talked about that when the gear grinding was implemented. Maybe the latest update removed it somehow?
Okey @Neidjel I just tested it and you can change gears with engine off with the mod, what problem are you getting? Does it make the gear grinding sound or does it just not engage? Have you tried removing the cache? And as for @nobadesuuchan off-topic, that's me. Three years ago. During the filming of a short movie that never saw the light. --- Post updated --- UPDATE I just removed my cache and now I can't change gears with the engine off! It does the gear grinding sound indeed. I had the 7.33 version lying around, and tested it with that, and can confirm you were able to change gears with engine off with that version, just not with the latest one.
Looks like I've got to look through everything to make sure its worked as intended for the next update.. Lol Off topic: I have a lot of versions of 4.x. and 2.1 lying around somewhere.
i hope they add this mod features into the base game as now the mod is not going to be updated. i am sad to see this mod not get more updates
It was a good run, @StinchinStein, good run. Too bad the forum guidelines have to come along and ruin it for you.
Whoa whoa whoa guys! Don't jump to conclusions! I Private Messaged Nadeox and he said I can continue to develop this mod. Although it won't be updated for a week as I am taking a vacation. Thanks for caring though!
I thought I would have to discontinue the mod because of the new mod guidelines, but the majority of those rules only apply to repo mods, so I'm in the clear
