bubble, it is seriously harder for me to think of a more bonehead move than sticking ram in wrong, it's not easy to do. I have no idea how you didn't break it.

It did break it. I was tired (I had stayed up since 7 AM and I was tired from skiing the day before.) so I messed it up. It's funny now but freaked me out then.

Don't worry, I managed to stick DDR into a DDR2 slot before I knew anything about computers. It didn't kill anything but I did get nasty error beep codes.

It's been about 8 years since then so yeah, I've come a long way with my knowledge (Finished my I.T studies). :D

Me, too. The sad thing is I've done it too. Pretty much any way to hurt/break a computer I have done it. I'm stupid. :p

i've never broken a computer but i did once slip and scrap a flathead screwdriver across a bunch of traces on the power supply board of a computer monitor once. Didn't work when i got it but definitely wasn't after that lol

That's a bad comparison. That's like saying "If you can run Max Payne 2, you will be able to run Max Payne 3 better" Just because a game is newer/better engine/more optimizing, doesn't mean that you'll be able to play it.

What would be considered a bronze age computer?

Honestly, when it comes to a pre-built computer, you should look at upgrading the power supply before touching the video card. Many, many prebuilt come with underpowered powersupplies and won't be able to handle the graphics card. And even if the label on the power supply says it will handle the specs of the video card, take that with a grain of salt unless it's a big name brand unit.

Well they're both Dell, so what do you expect?

It's not a bad comparison, they're built differently on entirely different engines. They haven't just taken the first game and improved on it, but they've completely rebuilt it.

    A shitty one

Exactly, like I said, just because someone can play Rigs of Rods doesn't mean they'll be able to play BeamNG.

OGRE and CryEngine are completely different from each other with different amounts of computing power needed.

So basically a made up term with no meaning? Owners of an overclocked Intel i7 would consider my 5 year old Phenom 9850 shitty, doesn't mean it is though.

    Oh jesus

They've completely rebuilt it like I said on a completely different engine which means that the code is less shitty and cluttered up which again means less cpu intensive. BeamNG will require a good graphics card though since the graphics are extremely improved by the engine switching.

"A computer from the bronze age" is an old cluttered up piece of shit belonging to people that expect way too much of them. If you're so worried that your computer specs might be shitty and you have to defend them with your "life" on the internet then they most likely are shitty

Oh man, someone's easily angered. I think you need to take a chill pill and calm down.

Like I said, they're two different engines meaning they will have entirely different cpu usage and therefore are NOT comparable. CryEngine3 being newer, having more features and being more graphically intensive than OGRE is going to need a stronger CPU to run at an acceptable frame rate than Rigs of Rods will need. Therefore, a computer that runs Rigs of Rods, is not guaranteed to be able to run BeamNG at the same speeds. This is fact, end of conversation.

Worried about my specs being shit? Not a chance, I'm quite proud that this machine, coming up on 5 years old, can still play all the new games. Not all of them at max, but none below medium.

Next time, try not to get so upset over an Internet post.

im pretty sure my cpu will play the game okay, its my gpu im worried about.

AMD A8-3850 (basically a phenom 2 with a gpu attached) quad core 2.9 ghz overclocked to 3.2ghz
    AMD Radeon HD6550D APU overclocked
    kingston 8gb 1600mhz overclocked

    what do you think?

Damn you're exaggerating my post a lot. I'm not angry, I just think it's weird that you have to get a proper explanation on what a shitty computer is. It feels like you want me to call your computer shitty without me knowing anything about it other than its age.
My explanation for why BeamNG most likely will get better fps than RoR on two identical mediocre computers doesn't work so I'll just drop it.

To be honest, the post did make it sound like you were getting angry at my posts. Gotta love trying to convey feelings through text right?

I was curious because everyone has their own opinion on what is a shitty computer, rather than statistically what's a bad computer.

No hard feelings I hope lol

That should be fast enough. I think the weak point would be your graphics card but graphics can easily be turned down.

I built my own computer just today. and it costed me about $1,500 with all the up-to date stuff (It better than Alienware) if i had bought it pre-built i would have cost me over $5,000!
