    If I purchase beamng on the bottom link at the site, do I get it independtly from steam?

    If you buy it from Humble Bundle, you also get a Steam key.

    It's actually correct.
    Humble Bundle gives both DRM-Free and Steam Key.

    So OP, you just choose what you want to use.
    If you use the DRM-Free, no Steam is needed. If you use the Steam Key, you obviously need Steam :)
