Would enjoy having larger heightmaps than 4096.
One used-to be able to import 6144x6144 heightmaps*, however, that's not currently possible and it 'needs to be a power of two' as required, is it possible to import a .ter file that's larger than 4096?
8192 locks the program when I attempt it. There's got to be some way to do this?

*Black hills is 6144x6144 terrain, so there's got to be a way. No way that was hand-done in the editor, as I've worked with it creating Nevada Interstate.

One of the maps I'm currently working on is 8192x8192. For me, the game doesn't "seize up" but rather the terrain editor tools become laggy.

Did you import 8192x8192, or did you use 4096x4096 with a square size of 2? My Tennessee USA has a square-size of like 5.4 or something on a 4096 map.

It is a 8192x8192 heightmap with a square size of 1.
Here is the heightmap I used:

Blackhills heightmap is 4096x4096 pixels with square size 1.5, so the terrain is 6144 meters. It would help if you make it clear which size you're talking about.

I tried importing Binkey's heightmap and it worked, so looks like 8192 pixels is possible too. The resulting .ter file is about 200 MB.

I ran into another new issue with importing, as it failed to import if I browsed the heightmap from any folder. Putting the file in Documents\BeamNG.drive and just entering the filename worked.

Alright, thanks guys. I am wondering why it failed on me, they may have fixed it in this version. I will have to leave it import for a while. Maybe I just have to let the rat run in the wheel a while (this pc's processor), or hold a cigarrette to it's bum or something to make it go faster.
This would be completely, entirely awesome if I could do this with the TN, USA terrain as it'd help extremely in addressing the map's lack of precision. Thanks for everyone's time and i'll give this a try with a blank map tonight and see what I come up with. Maybe the devs actually did address the issue I brought up with them a month ago about the heightmap size import limits of 4096.
@Miura, my bad, sorry about that, I completely forgot black hills was 4096x1.5 and not 6144 outright. My constant migraines and back pain do a lot to derail the thought train here. Getting old sucks.
Thanks guys. Knowing someone else did it, helps a bunch.

I'd rather have open world support than support for slightly bigger closed world support. :p

    Thats's a given.
Even if we just get loading zones/level changers it'll be better than none at all. Of course, quake2 has those and I think that's open-source now isn't it? Hrmmmmm. Makes me wanna start mucking around with lua...
    -------

Actually, I tried importing an 8192 map, and the game locked up for like, 10~20 mins, it sat and didn't do anything, and this is a pretty fast cpu, so I think I'll try importing a .ter instead of a heightmap.

Did you try importing Binkey's 8192 heightmap? That one worked for me with an import which took less than 2min on an i5-4670K.

No, not yet, i'll have to schedule an appointment with my crap internet connection, to download it at a later point. I click and nothing happens on the gfx. screenshots can take up to a minute. The day cable internet becomes available here I am going to sink about 50 40-cal rounds into that DSL modem for how much I despise this rotten internet. I will give it a shot.

Gotcha. FWIW you might want to right click and use "save link as" or similar.
