I was just wondering if in beamNG the different materials would affect how the car deforms. For instance, in ROR you would crash a car and the hard plastic dashboard would crumple like metal instead of break apart like a hard plastic material. So what will this game do when it comes face to face with some plastic.

I think they said in a previous thread that they can simulate any material. In the videos i diden't see any plastic like material but who knows maybe they will do this when the game is almost complete :)

yeah i do also think that i have read that its possible, but i would like to know if it will be implimented into the game or the engine.

huh. i never thought about that. that would be awesome. maybe deforming terrain and objects?

Not to be mean, but don't you think were throwing alot at the designers, then bugging them about when it will be released

just a suggestion. i know it'd be a TON of work and probably wont happen. (theres a cool russian trucking game called spin wheels or something that has deformable terrain. really fun.)

Regarding this subject, the recent blog post has made me feel that materials will have separate physics and properties and tdev has also pointed this out:

Does this, in that case, mean that materials such as metal will bend and stay stuck in the position while rubber can split and be slightly more durable. Also, as OP rightly pointed out, how will this impact upon materials such as plastic, which really don't bend and instead fracture and crack, how will BeamNG deal with malleable materials?

    That's a nice catch.
You can see that the mirrors are made of plastic nodes.
I really hope to see it Simulate nicely. I think this should make tyres simulate correct? Because of the Rubber nodes.

Currently it just affects the friction, particle, and sound parameters. The approximation of metal vs plastic/rubber, etc. is achieved with differing spring, damp, deform, and break values for the beams.

So, if someone makes a car, will they have to enter these values themselves or does the engine apply these automatically after being told what material is applied?

So for example, when loading a vehicle onto a trailer or something other than the ground or asphalt surface in ROR, the tires on the surface of the trailer seemed to slide around too much. Will that be fixed in beamng?

Yes. No code is shared with RoR, it's a completely clean slate. None of those bugs from RoR will be making a return.
