Hey I just got a new pc. Specs: windows 10 64 gig ram Intel core i7 5820k msi gtx 1080 gaming x Motherboard: msi x99a raider. anyway my framerate can sometimes go down to 40 fps and other times up to 140 fps. this is not on the gridmap, this is on the other maps. is this normal? i just wonder if my pc is running correctly
Make sure you're not running windowed , or borderless windowed mode. I've figured out that these modes bring my FPS down to around 25-40, but when in fullscreen, I hit 140+ most of the time.
Yes! I allways make sure I got fullscreen. Other settings are pretty much defaut. By the way on the gridmap, I get around 160. In other Maps, i Get an average of 80. You know that canyon map? When i start the map and just standing there without driving, my fps is 112. Could you check some of this things on your pc? And what are your pc hardware. I'm just a little afraid if my pc is running correctly when it comes to how much money I used. And I would think 64 gig ram, gtx 1080 graphics card, and 6 core i7 cpu would be totally overkill Thank you for taking your time btw
I don't think that you have mentioned your resolution, that's at least a little relevant. What is your resolution? How do you get your framerate down to 40 fps? IMO BeamNG.drive is a terrible benchmark for your high-end PC. It's a rapidly changing and un-optimized early access game. To test performance you should use established and stable games and applications.
thanks! it really worked for my GTX970M (I know M) i7 6700 skylake and 16GB DDR4 ram. I went from an unplayable 16fps on max settings, tried these settings (still on max rendering settings) and got a healthy 55-60 fps (I have framerate lock because I am on a laptop and I am cautious of temps). It worked
That is odd, I get only 2-5fps difference between windowed and full screen modes using same resolution. I wonder what could affect this full screen / windowed difference, is it OS related, because I have Win8 or something else? If you use lot of lights and shadows are on, then it will bring even fastest CPU to low FPS, on some maps this happens even without running many lights. Shadows are using lot of CPU and can use only single core performance, so those can easily make slowdowns on some maps. What I have found out is that FPS counter can affect quite a lot in windowed mode at least, haven't tested without windowed modes, but on grid map windowed 720p I got over 200fps, any FPS counter used at least 20% of CPU, that is single core of CPU, not total, shadows use same CPU core and if that core hits 100%, GPU load will drop as GPU has to wait data from CPU, so yeah, things can get confusing really fast if trying to do benchmarks, you might be GPU or CPU limited at different places on track, which will mess bench marking of CPU or GPU and you would only get whole system benchmark, not really useful in practice. However if you know your stuff, you might manage to test CPU and GPU performance, but not using same settings and it is not quite as simple to figure out as one might think, for example MSI Afterburner can cause task manager not to show CPU usage correctly, which might easily lead to confusion. Smoothest and best playback is to keep vsync on and aim for not dropping below monitor's refresh rate at any situation.
